A quantity of Coalport cabinet cups and saucers, to include jewelled examples, a quatrefoil shaped example with turquoise ground and jewelled details, purple, green, cobalt, miniature and further examples (Qty) CONDITION REPORT: The raspberry coloured cup shows a hairline crack running from the rim to the base. The gilt and floral panelled saucer shows extensive repair and rubbing to the gilt. The remaining pieces are in generally good condition showing no visible chips, cracks or losses. With maps, vignettes and numerous (partly folded) plates. - The first edition of Buffon's Natural History comprises 36 in-4° volumes divided into series: Histoire de la Terre et de l'Homme, Quadrupèdes, Oiseaux, Minéraux, Suppléments. Buffon had 35 volumes published during his lifetime. Shortly before his death, the fifth and last volume of the History of Minerals appeared in 1788 at the Imprimerie des Bâtiments du Roi. The seventh and last volume of Buffon's Supplements was published posthumously in 1789 by Lacépède. - Calf binding on 5 raised bands with gilt titles on red labels to the spine, gild tooling with floral motives, red edges and fillets (partly rubbed and shaved, few volumes with minor wormings, vol. I. and vol. VI of the Suppléments slightly damaged on the top of the spine). - Contains: 1) Histoire naturelle, générale et particulière, avec la description du Cabinet du Roy, vol. I-XV, 2) Histoire naturelle des minéraux, vol. IV-V (1786-1788), 3) Suppléments à l'Histoire naturelle, vol. I-VII (1774-1789). - Beautiful collection with wonderful plates, mainly drawn by Jacques de Sève and engraved by about thirty artists of the Imprimerie Royale. - Enclosed: handwritten letter by Joseph Kerdaniel (dated April 3, 1847). Vol. VII somewhat dampstained. One plate torn. Last leaves of volume VI partly detached. Slightly browned in few places. Overall in very good condition.
