Lot 1310

An Edwardian inlaid mahogany tantalus stand, with drawer fitted for cribbage, width 36 cm. CONDITION REPORT: There is one stopper missing which is a shame as all three decanters are otherwise in generally very good order. There are no significant chips. There are no cracks. There are the usual very minor nibbles around the top rims and on some of the proud parts of the cutting but no real serious issues. The tantalus itself is in reasonable order. There are some nibbles to the front edge of the very top where the decanters have been lifted in and out. The same comments apply to the front edge of the decanter apertures. The cabinet is structurally sound with only very minor surface scratches and small blemishes. The drawer handle is missing the swans neck drop. The drawer runs smoothly and has all the interior divisions and also the cribbage board.

There is a very minor loss to the edge moulding at the very top of both doors and a tiny shrinkage gap between the doors. All brasswork is original and in good condition. The interior of the cabinet is in very good condition with all pieces being present including the inkwells. The drawer closes as it should. The silver fob watch winds and appears to be ticking away as it should. The condition is again very good.

Lot 1374

A large Italian rococo style white and gilt painted dining room suite, comprising sideboard, dining table, trolley and eight dining chairs, two arm and six single. Table dimensions 116 cm x 218 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table does have a shaped protective glass cover. The suite is in generally very good condition with only minor marks and blemishes. The main issue with the large display cabinet is that the centre right hand door does not have a glass. All other glass panels are in good order. There are some minor scuffs and marks to the extremities of the cabinet but the condition is generally very good indeed. The table is also structurally very sound with only very minor paint losses and small scuffs to the extremities. The top has been protected by the glass plate and is again in very good order with only very minor blemishes. There are a few minor blemishes to the stretchers but again no significant issues. All chairs are structurally sound with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. There are no loose joints. The upholstery on all of the single chairs and one armchair is in very good order with no issues. The material to the front edge of the second armchair is perished and worn. There are again a few minor losses to the gilding and paintwork but these are minimal.

Lot 1380

A Victorian rosewood pier cabinet, with ebonised moulded edge, inlaid frieze and single door enclosing shelves, flanked by flat pilasters and with plinth base. Width 79 cm.

Lot 1436

A Queen Anne double domed bureau bookcase, the upper section with adjustable shelves, the bureau with central cupboard door flanked by columns between pigeon holes and drawers with candle slides, above two short and three long graduated drawers with, brass carrying handles to the side, all on bun feet, width 98.5 cm, height 209 cm, depth 58 cm. (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: In our opinion this bureau bookcase is not a marriage. The handles and lock escutcheons whilst clearly very old are not original. There is evidence of further sets of handles particularly when the drawers are viewed from the rear. There are however very old and faint pegged repairs also visible to the fronts of the drawers. There is also the shadow of a further lock escutcheon around the lock to the bureau slope. The lock escutcheons to either side of the top half are both different. The brass knob handles are unlikely to be original but again clearly of considerable age. In our opinion the handles do not detract from the piece. The upper half is in generally very good order. The only minor repair that we can see to the cornice is at the front left hand corner. Both doors close as they should and are not warped. They both lock and we have the key. The locks are clearly not original but perfectly effective. The interior appears to be complete. There may have been more shelves at some point. The slope front is in good order. The interior is in good condition also. There is one loose brass knob handle but we have this. The sides of the cabinet are in good condition. The brass carrying handles are probably original. The bun feet again have age but are unlikely to be original. The backboards are original. There is a small rectangular piece of oak missing from beneath the right hand loper. The brass knob handle to the left hand loper is detached as is part of the oak section onto which this attaches. We have the piece.

CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally sound. The top is flat and of good colour. It may possibly have had a back as there is a screw hole visible on the top on the extreme right and left of the piece. This may however simply be holding the top to the bottom. They are not particularly visible. There are some minor stress fractures to the solid wood top but again no real issues. The sides of the cabinet are in good condition. The doors are not warped. The backboard has been drilled presumably for wires and is a little scuffed and marked in the centre aperture.
