An early 20th century American walnut `Amberg`s Cabinet Letter File`, fitted with four file drawers, each with original paper trade label/record 51 x 37½ x 30cm (20 x 14 x 12in) Provenance: Cameron Amberg & Co. was established in 1868 and made its first Cabinet Letter Files in 1875, when they won an award from the American Institute, New York. In 1876 its Cabinet Letter Files were awarded a medal at the Centennial Exposition. By 1893 the company name changed to Amberg Letter & File Co.

The top has three panels carved with a Japanese style decoration. The cupboards are supported by `L` shaped iron hinged of simple form. The base has three large drawers with unusual steel ring pull handles. The sides are finely carved to match the front of the cupboard. Terminating on a square reeded type leg. Carved & signed to the sides, Makers name `J.C.Sowerby` Dated 1886. Similar to pieces sold by Libertys Of London in the late 19th Century. 70`` in height, 18`` in depth & 79.5`` in width.
