A miniature Anglo Portuguese ebony and brass mounted cabinet, c.1900, of rectangular form, the two doors opening to reveal interior with drawers, decorated internally and externally with continuous stylised foliage, the corners with pierced brass mounts, having brass hinges and handles, raised upon turned brass feet, 35cm high x 38cm wide x 34cm deep.

Anscheutz & Schlaff & Co, a fine English coin balance, c.1765-1775, the silvered dial and frame stamped 'Anscheutz & Co., No.1839', with a circular copper pan and lacquered brass frame, hinging at the base of the shaped mahogany box, the lid interior with applied printed paper instructions, with address for Denmark St. Soho, London, and with original Anscheutz & Schlaff trade card, to weigh guineas, Portuguese pieces and Moidores, 13.8cm high Valentine Anscheutz (working 1761-died 1796), clock case & cabinet maker. In partnership with John Schlaff 1771-1781 as merchants in Denmark St. They made the Index balance patented by their clock-making neighbour John Sebastian Clais, patent No.1014 of 1772. Each one was numbered individually, No.1839 being the second highest number recorded. This is the only known example of their trade card. Sold in 1773 throughout the country by retailers, including by Benjamin Martin & Christopher Pinchbeck. Anscheutz' Will survives.

Ensemble 15 volumes in-4, veau marbré, triple filet, dos à 5 nerfs ornés, roulette intérieure, tranches dorées (Reliure de l`époque)., Recueils contenant respectivement un titre et un frontispice pour chaque volume et 682 et 479 planches hors texte gravées sur cuivre par François-Anne David avec des explications par Sylvain Maréchal et F. Mulot., Bel exemplaire malgré de petits manques à quelques coiffes supérieures et de pâles mouillures.

Dominique-Vivant DENON. Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte, pendant les campagnes du général Bonaparte. Paris, Didot l`aîné, 1802. 2 volumes grand in-folio, demi-veau marron de l`époque avec les dos à 6 nerfs refaits., ÉDITION ORIGINALE de ce monument sur la civilisation égyptienne, sans conteste le plus important ouvrage de l`auteur, véritable somme de tout ce qu`il découvrit en Égypte., Né en 1747, Dominique-Vivant Denon connut tour à tour tous les bouleversements politiques de son temps sans en subir les conséquences. Destiné à la magistrature, il se dirigea très tôt vers les beaux-arts et la littérature, approcha la cour de Louis XV et devint Directeur du Cabinet de médailles et de pierres gravées. Diplomate ensuite en Italie, il s`attacha à diriger les artistes qui travaillèrent au Voyage pittoresque de Naples et de Sicile de l`abbé de Saint-Non. La Révolution le trouva à Venise où, ayant appris que ses biens avaient été confisqués et qu`il figurait sur la liste des émigrés, il rejoignit Paris pour y faire valoir ses droits. Il y rencontra le peintre David qui le prit en amitié, rencontra Joséphine de Beauharnais puis Bonaparte auquel il s`attacha. Lors de l`expédition d`Égypte, malgré ses 50 ans passés et à la demande de Bonaparte, il s`embarqua pour l`aventure, croqua sur le vif ces dessins qu`il publia à son retour et qui connurent un très grand succès. Sa carrière ne s`arrêta pas là ; Bonaparte le nomma Directeur général des Musées et de la monnaie. Il accompagnait l`empereur dans ses campagnes et désignait les objets d`art qui devaient enrichir le Musée du Louvre. Il mourut en 1825, ami de tous ceux qui le connurent. Son voyage reste sans conteste un admirable témoignage de la découverte de la civilisation égyptienne par le monde occidental., Au total l`atlas contient 141 planches dont 8 sur double page, 2 bis et 2 réunies en une. Mis à part 2 cartes et 5 plans, les planches sont à un ou à multiples sujets, vues de paysages, monuments, statues, scènes dans le désert, batailles, habitants, bas-reliefs, inscriptions, objets,…, au total plus de 500 sujets gravés par Vivant Denon. , Reliures restaurées, frottées, réparation à une planche, feuillets parfois brunis avec taches.

François RUDE (Dijon,1784 - Paris,1855) Louis XIII adolescent. Esquisse modelée. Statuette en argent, base en bronze. Vers 1843. Haut. 33, Long. 9, Prof. 9 cm. Montée sur une pendule néo-Renaissance en marbre blanc, d`après un dessin de Félix Duban. Haut. 31, Long. 40, Prof. 18 cm. Mécanisme en laiton, échappement à ancre, signé "Desmaret, élève de Claude Mobin". Historique : Tirage en argent de la maquette de Louis XIII, offerte par le duc de Luynes à l`architecte Félix Duban (1798-1870). Le duc de Luynes et Duban aménagent au rez-de-chaussée du château de Dampierre, dans l`ancien Cabinet de la Reine, un véritable sanctuaire dédié à la Renaissance, La pièce reçoit une statue de Louis XIII par Rude, commandée en 1840, fondue en argent par Richard, Eck et Durand, posée sur un piedestal sculpté par l`artiste lui-même - et exécuté en bronze " de la meilleure qualité " par les mêmes fondeurs. Cette statue (haut. 260 cm) ayant disparue, notre réduction de Louis XIII est l`unique statue de Rude, d`époque - et en argent conservée à ce jour. Le musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon conserve depuis 2007 une réplique en bronze de 1878. Rude s`inspire des gravures d`un ouvrage équestre du XVIIe siècle, auquel il emprunte la physionomie, le costume et la badine dont le cavalier se sert pour dresser sa monture. L`attitude fière et désinvolte du jeune roi de seize ans mêle une grâce encore enfantine et un port altier : cambré sur le côté droit, la jambe gauche un peu avancée, la main droite tenant une badine. Rude insiste sur les détails - comme pour sa statue du maréchal Ney (Paris, place de l`Observatoire) ou encore la Marseillaise (Paris, Arc de triomphe) - avec une extrême précision. Il est maître de l`élégance du costume de Louis XIII, dont les détails sont rendus avec virtuosité : cuir souple des grandes bottes aux plis élégants, cordonnet du chapeau en feutre à large bords, jusqu`à la ciselure de la collerette de dentelle en éventail. Provenance : - Conservée depuis l`origine dans la famille de l`architecte Duban. - Transmise à son neveu Alexandre Flacheron, étiquette manuscrite ancienne : "Statuette en argent, d`une maquette en cire perdue, par Rude, de Louis XIII qui est au château de Dampierre. Donné à mon oncle Félix Duban qui fit la restauration du château de Dampierre, par le duc de Luynes". - Ses descendants, collection familiale orléanaise. Il est émouvant de mettre en parallèle ces deux oeuvres originales de Rude - notre statuette en argent de Louis XIII enfant - et son chef-d`oeuvre monumental universellement connu : la Marseillaise de l`Arc de Triomphe de l`Étoile. Alfred Auguste JANNIOT (Paris, 1889 - Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1969) Torse féminin, étude pour les Trois Grâces. Pierre, ronde-bosse. Haut. 105, Larg. 43, Haut. 35 cm. Provenance : - Ancienne collection Ducos à la Thébaïde (Val-d`Oise), dans la partie droite du parc. Le torse de Cécile, l`épouse du sculpteur, est l`une des séries les plus présentes dans l`oeuvre de Janniot, qui le traite sous l`influence de l`Aphrodite de Cnide. Cette étude de torse correspond au personnage central du groupe des Trois Grâces à la Thébaïde. Il se rapproche également de celui réalisé pour la maison de couture de Mme Blanche Issartel (Giraud, 2006, p. 48). Il pourrait aussi avoir été repris pour la statue de Baigneuse qui orne l`entrée du Cabinet des estampes de la Bibliothèque nationale de France (1945). Une étude de ce torse provenant également de la Thébaïde, de plus petites dimensions, a en effet été présentée aux enchères (Christies, 2005). Un autre plâtre, accidenté, avec les bras dans la même disposition a également été présenté aux enchères (Tajan, 2002). On retrouve les caractéristiques de ce torse, enfin, pour la femme représentant le Printemps dans le groupe des "Quatre Saisons" à l`École normale supérieure du Cachan (1953).
