A pair of Helena Wolfsohn quatreform cabinet cups and saucers, late 19th century, each decorated with panels of courting figures between panels of flowers, all within gilt borders, cross sword marks to the underside and a Continental porcelain cabinet cup and saucer. CONDITION REPORT: The taller of the two quatreform cups has extensive glaze crazing and gives out a flat ring when lightly tapped. Its saucer has a very fine 3 cm hairline crack visible on the underside issuing from the rim. Otherwise these appear to be free from any obvious chips, cracks or restorations. Its partner cup and saucer both appear to be in good order with no obvious chips, cracks or restorations. The handle of the cup has very light gilt rubbing. Both items ring out nicely when lightly tapped. The Austrian style cup and saucer is free from any chips, cracks or obvious restorations.
A Meissen onion pattern hot water jug and cover, two cups and saucers and side plate, a small cabinet cup and dish, the teacup with floral bouquets and butterfly, the dish decorated with a rose, each with gilt rims, factory marks. Jug height 25.5 cm (8). CONDITION REPORT: The hot water jug lid has chips to the petal on the knop and a small chip to the interior rim. The jug itself appears to be free from any obvious chips, cracks or restorations. One cup has a single interior rim chip whilst the other has two small rim chips. One saucer has three small rim chips, the other saucer appears to be free from any obvious faults. The side plate appears to be free from any obvious chips, cracks or restorations. The cabinet cup appears to free from any obvious chips, cracks or restorations and similarly the small pin dish.
A VICTORIAN DEAL, OAK AND PAINTED TOOL CHEST, SECOND HALF 19TH C the underside of the lid painted with royal arms and inscribed Jos Thripp [sic] & Sons Coachmaker to her Majesty, the fitted interior containing 19th and early 20th c tools including plough, moulding, smoothing, panel and side fillister planes by various makers, router, mortice gauge mitre square, plated brace, augers, patterns, saws, mallet and stock of hand made nails in three compartments, 57cm h, 61 x 98cm, keyThe famous West End firm of coachbuilders was founded by John Thrupp in London in the mid 18th c and survived until 1967. In 1858 the firm under his successors Robert and Charles Joseph Thrupp merged with that of the coachbuilder George Maberly (1797-1883). Thrupp and Maberly were appointed Coachmakers to the Queen in 1885. There is no reason to suppose the painting of the Royal Arms and inscription is of significantly later date, notwithstanding the curious misspelling of Thripp for Thrupp and use of the old style name when the firm was trading as Thrupp and Maberly. It is in good, but unrestored, condition has been in the present cabinet makers ownership for many decades and it would therefore be reasonable to infer that the original owner was some highly skilled tradesman proud of his connection - whether journeyman or long time employee - of this most illustrious of British coachbuildersIn good original condition, stored for many years in a workshop, the exterior much encrusted with dirt and grim, knocks and scratches, the interior clean
