An early Victorian mahogany cabinet bookcase, circa 1850, the lancet moulded doors enclosing shelves, the cabinet base with two drawers and cupboard doors, 241cm high, 125cm wide, 54cm deepProvenance: Private Collection, The Old Rectory, GloucestershirePurchased from T. G. Wilkinson, Petworth, in 1999. Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, Some old splits and cracks and some repairs to the glazing bars,All the other metalware (hinges, locks, handles) appear to be original, There are two keys present with this lot, one is operating the glazed cupboard doors, the lower ones have a key inserted in the lock and is stuck firmly. this may be the right key but the lock is seized and require a good oil, or it may be the wrong lock inserted and stuck - Dreweatts make no guarantees - all elements are open at time of report, there are screws required to fix the top to the base - there are two loose with the cabinet but Dreweatts do not guarantee how good a fit or the overall stability - this would need to be fixed securely before use in a domestic settingThe interior of the top cabinet has had a later backing inserted which has been painted black - presumably to better show off the former contentsThe interior of the lower panel doors is lighter in colour and appears un-polished, it is presumed that the flame veneers to the doors is thin and applied to the thicker planed panels for stability, this is of a differing timber and has been left as something of a feature. An Aesthetic Movement walnut, parcel gilt and polychrome painted side cabinet, last quarter 19th century, attributed to Collier & Plucknett, with floral painted panels throughout, the painted panel to the cresting centred by a portrait roundel of a maiden, 238cm high, 170cm wide, 50cm deep Provenance: By family repute, purchased from a sale a Wood Norton, Worcestershire in 1912 when Prince Philippe, Duke of Orléans left the estate. A bedroom suite with near identically decorated panels by Collier & Plucknett of Warwick & Leamington sold in these rooms in May 2021James Plucknett was originally in partnership with Frederick Collier with showroom in Leamington Spa and workshops in Warwick. The firm advertised in various trade directories between 1872-1880 and gained many commissions from well healed local families as well as from further afield. They advertises themselves as '...Manufacturers of rich carved furniture in the peculiar styles characteristic of the Gothic, Tudor and Elizabethan ages' Perhaps Collier and Plucknett's best known commission was for Tyntesfield, the celebrated Victorian Mansion, which was re-modelled for William Gibbs (1790-1875). Collier and Plucknett supplied much of the Gothic revival furniture to Tyntesfield. Today Tyntesfield is owned by the national trust and as well as examples of furniture visitors can also view the fully fitted Collier and Plucknett bathroom of Matilda Blanche GibbsCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and useSome old chips and losses to timber and also to some areas of the decoration, the concave gilt and painted element with a significant old loss to the surface toward one corner, some of the other panels with old marks, scratches, and areas of lossThe handles and locks appear original throughout, there is one small key present that operates the lock to one of the small glazed cupboards, the other one remains locked, the lower cupboard doors are open at time of report, there are no locks to the drawers by design, one lower door appears to have been forced open at some point and there are knocks, indentation and damage to timber here. A Regency mahogany side cabinet, circa 1820, with marble top, 88cm high, 106cm wide, 31cm deepCondition Report: There are marks, scuffs, knocks and abrasions consistent with age and use.The marble top has chips to the back corners and small chips 'visible' to touch and some scratching.The material behind the brass grilles is later (and a bit shiney) the pattern if offset, not fitting the diamond grilles.The left door has a sliding catch to the side of the door at the base; the right door is not quite straight as it does not engage smoothly and flush.There are more knocks and scuffs to the base than elsewhere.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition.Condition Report Disclaimer
A mahogany twin pedestal D-end dining table, 19th century and later, to include one additional leaf insertion, 75cm high, 328cm long overall, 122cm widePlease note this comes with a leaf cabinet, this appears to be associated to the lot and the leaf is too short to fit snuggly within, it is 86cm high, 146cm wide, 27cm deep and is in the form of a narrow side cabinet - please see additional images for details Please note the original length of this table was incorrect in the PDF and online catalogues the length without the leaf is 262cm long, the leaf is 66 cm long giving an overall length of 328cm not 347cm as originally cataloguedCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and useOverall with a polished appearance, there are some marks and indentations to the top, the tops are fairly uniform in appearance the additional leaf is darker in colourSome marks and stains to the topPlease note this is formed of D-ends and an attached leaf at each end - this appears to be by later design, there is then one extra leaf that can be inserted, the length without the leaf is 262cm long, the leaf is 66 cm long giving an overall length of 328cmThe tops are designed to tilt, there are hinged bolts and a catch to secure the top to the base, this action is functioning and holding at the time of report. When the leaves are in the 'up' position it becomes apparent that the tops have been adapted previously (as per the catalogued description)Overall solid and stable, the elements are joined by table clips and there are enough for the table complete with extra leafThe leaf cabinet appears to be associated and truly belong to another table, however it does 'work' along side this one, there are some old chips and losses to the veneers to thisPlease refer to additional images for visual reference to condition and the action of this tableCondition Report Disclaimer
