A mid-Victorian figured walnut travelling cabinet, the rounded rectangular top above fall-front enclosing two drawers and a lower drawer set with pen tray and inkwell to the front, height 31.5cm, width 28cm, depth 19cm. CONDITION REPORT: Slight lifts and cracks to the veneers on the top, a vertical crack running through the door on the left hand side, also some inked decoration to the walnut and some filler around the escutcheon, at the moment the action where the door should clip tight is not functioning properly so the fall front is dropping down, in the base drawer there are two metal spring clips at the back which aren't quite locating correctly as they should and the base drawer is rather Heath Robinson in its construction and has certainly been adapted, also a split to the side panels and back.
An Edwardian stained beech and stencil decorated wall cabinet, the hinged door with stylised Art Nouveau floral detail revealing a simple later shelf to a plinth base, height 45cm, width 34.5cm, depth 18cm. CONDITION REPORT: A few small wood worm holes noticeably to the top of the cabinet, a few surface scratches and knocks, otherwise in good condition.
A Coalport hand painted and printed cabinet plate centred with a view of 'Kilchurn Castle' by Perry, with a blue and white rose printed gilt heightened border, diameter 23cm, printed marks, titled and inscribed X2902, a maroon ground square sectioned dish with central painted vignette depicting landscape view inscribed 'Chatsworth, Derbyshire, The Seat of The Duke of Devonshire', width 23cm, and a pink ground bordered cabinet plate inscribed 'Alnwick Abbey, Northumberland', diameter 24cm (3). CONDITION REPORT: Kilchurn: dirty but has light rubbing to the gilding and scratches. Alnwick: scratches and heavy wear to the pink border, rubbing to the gilding especially around the painted central panel which is rather crude and probably on a transfer base, very dirty. Chatsworth: crack running right through the base from foot rim to foot rim, also has a 1cm x 8mm rim chip to the back of the rim, a 2cm x 1cm rim chip to the back and three further small rim chips to the back, surface scratches throughout and rubbing to the gilding.
A Coalport floral painted shallow bowl with gilt heightened dark blue border, diameter 25cm, a similarly decorated oval bowl, length 29cm, and two floral painted cabinet plates (4). CONDITION REPORT: Oval bow: a few very small hairline cracks emanating from the rim. One of the plates has been broken in half and crudely glued. All four are dirty with light surface wear throughout.
A Coalport cabinet plate with hand painted landscape titled 'In The Grampian Hills', signed P Simpson, with gilt heightened border, printed marks Z1171/A/38, diameter 26.5cm, a further gilt heightened cabinet plate painted with a farmstead and with three horses to the foreground, unmarked, diameter 24.25cm, and a gilt heightened cabinet plate decorated with a loch, printed marks, also X2289, diameter 23.2cm (3). CONDITION REPORT: Grampian Hills; a 2cm fine hairline crack from the rim, also has residue from a disc hanger to the back. All three have light surface scratches and very light wear to the gilding and would benefit from a clean.
Five Coalport floral decorated gilt heightened cabinet plates with dark blue borders, each approx 24cm (5). CONDITION REPORT: Plate with four cream gilt heightened swirls emanating from the quatrefoil shaped central panel has extensive restoration. The plate depicting two large roses with a small bud in between has two very fine 1.5cm hairline cracks emanating from the rim. The other three are OK. All five have surface wear and light rubbing to the gilding.
A mahogany hanging cabinet of breakfront outline with glazed central door and base set with three drawers, height 74cm, width 76cm, depth 24.5cm. CONDITION REPORT: Ca. 1870. One unsightly area to top of central section. Some areas of crossbanding replaced. Some small losses. No locking mechanism. General surface wear throughout. Owing to its size, it may have been reduced at some point. A lovely thing overall.
A Coalport cabinet plate, hand painted with a detailed landscape, diameter 21.6cm, a further cabinet plate depicting 'Roslin Castle', diameter 23.2cm, and a third cabinet plate depicting an abbey ruin, diameter 23.6cm (3). CONDITION REPORT: Landscape plate: surface scratches and rubbing to the gilding. Lesser so to the other two plates which are dirty.
An early 19th century mahogany travelling medicine chest or apothecary cabinet with brass top carrying handle above two hinged doors enclosing various compartments for bottles (partially fitted) and three small drawers, each with sliding cover enclosing various items including a leather cased set of four tortoiseshell lancets, a brass fleam, various phials, etc, also with two long drawers fitted with various accoutrements and 'secret' slide to the back of the cabinet enclosing four rounded square sectioned glass jars, height 30cm, width 25.5cm, depth 18cm. CONDITION REPORT: The front right door looking at the cabinet has a horizontal repaired split, apart from the general surface wear, scuffs, scrapes etc commensurate with age, bottles similar, some with small nibbles, scratches etc, one of the bottles in secret section with handle broken off from stopper and stopper stuck in bottle, bottle with chip to neck rim.
A mid-Victorian burr walnut stationery cabinet, the hinged top with lift out section containing various pigeon holes above two angled doors enclosing further compartments for stationery, two associated inkwells and a pen tray, height 31.5cm, width 32cm, depth 26cm. CONDITION REPORT: Surface wear and tear throughout, there is a thin split to the right hand door and some matched veneering, the base of both doors is rather rough in finish and has chips running along this base rail, further splits to the veneers.
A set of twelve Chinese silver menu holders modelled as Chinese labourers, each stamped 925 to base, presented in glazed wooden display cabinet with presentation plaque 'Presented To Mr & Mrs Holmes by the Director At Offices HKFS 1987', each approx 0.4ozt, also a set of six base metal napkin rings with decoration depicting dragons in relief. CONDITION REPORT: Menu holders with minor surface wear, dirt and tarnish. Napkin rings more heavily worn, scratches, pitting, gouges, tarnish and discolouration, etc. Case worn. Menu holders were made in 1987. As stated, napkin rings are base metal.
Three Coalport floral decorated hand painted dark blue and gilt heightened cabinet plates, diameter 24cm, 20.5cm and 22cm (3). CONDITION REPORT: Largest: a series of very small fine hairline cracks from the rim. All three are dirty and have light surface scratches. Smallest: hairline crack running through the base and a further crack approx 12cm running around the bowl, also a further 2cm fine hairline towards the edge of the plate.
A mahogany and inlaid travelling cabinet with hinged lid above six small drawers flanked by recessed brass carrying handles, height 14cm, width 39cm, depth 19cm. CONDITION REPORT: Incorporating some elements of 19th century but of 20th century manufacture. General surface scratches, losses to the feather banding on the drawer fronts. One of the turned knob handles does not match the others.
A Coalport hand painted cabinet plate depicting a Montagu's harrier upon a pigeon, with butterflies painted to the borders, diameter 24cm, and four bird decorated Coalport cabinet plates (5). CONDITION REPORT: Harrier: does not ring true yet no obvious signs of cracks or any restoration, natural pitting and rubbing to the raised points, slightly rubbed to the gilding. The other four have rubbing to the gilding and light surface wear.
A Coalport hand painted fruit decorated cabinet plate, signed Chivers, with gilt decorated border, diameter 27cm, and two further fruit decorated Coalport cabinet plates, diameter 24cm (3). CONDITION REPORT: Fruit decorated plate: has been in two sections and has been restored, you can see the restoration where it has cracked through the apple and beneath the grapes, otherwise light surface wear throughout. The other two are both very dirty and one does not ring true although no obvious signs of a crack, both have quite heavy rubbing to the gilding and wear to the raised points.
A shoe rack with the ends cut in the form of lady's boots, a modern book trough, a further modern desk cabinet with single drawer, a carved tissue box and a resin moulded cherub ornament (5). CONDITION REPORT: The shoe rack is rather loose, the book trough is OK, as is the tissue box, the desk cabinet has an area of fret work which is broken off but most is present.
A Coalport hand painted cabinet plate centred with two plums within a pierced turquoise ground, floral and fruit decorated border, painted '&' mark to the reverse, diameter 23.75cm, a further cabinet plate painted with fruit by Bailey, diameter 25cm, and a ribbon plate painted with lemons by Cook, diameter 23.6cm (3). CONDITION REPORT: Plum plate: rubbing to the gilding, also slightly rubbed to the raised lobed section to the centre of the plate, light surface scratches. The other two are dirty and the multi-fruit decorated plate is quite worn around the edges with wear to the gilding.
A Coalport hand painted cabinet plate depicting a stag drinking from a pond, with green checkered floral decorated border, diameter 24cm, a shallow bowl painted with three vignettes of gentlemen in various pursuits, diameter 21.5cm, and a further rounded rectangular shallow bowl decorated with insects and exotic birds, diameter 21cm (3). CONDITION REPORT: Stag: light surface wear and some natural pitting. Rounded square sectioned dish: rubbing to the gilding, some light surface scratches. Blue and gilt bow: very dirty and heavy wear to the gilding and with lots of scratches on the centre section.
