* Dinky Toys. A group of pre-& early post-war toys and accessories etc., 1930s-1950s, including Garage forecourt petrol-pumps and oil cabinet, traffic-lights, road-signs, police & telephone boxes etc., together with related small scale toys representing AA & RAC Motor-cycle patrol combinations, MG racer, etc. and with “Matchbox” Jaguar E-type (boxed) Ferrari “Sharknose” and “Schuco” Mercedes W196 streamliner etc. (approx. 25)
* The Royal Navy in the 20th Century. A fine unique collection of hand-made miniature-scale model waterline ships representing the Royal Navy strength from c. 1914-2000, comprising a large group of approximately 3,000 individual vessels commissioned into service during the period. Of wood and wire construction, each hand-crafted model finished in appropriate painted finish, every type of vessel represented by its original counterpart, replacement and new type including the smallest corvette and minesweeper to the largest capital ships and aircraft carriers etc. Contained in a series of display shelves in fitted cabinet, together with owner’s log-books and record-sheets etc. The whole collection, devised, formulated and crafted by Lt. Cmdr. Horace Jeremy Spencer Walpole (1924-2001). Walpole attended St. George’s School near Wellington, New Zealand from the age of 7 to 13 and then went to Dartmouth Naval College from age 13 to 18. During WWII he served on Destroyers and Frigates on North Atlantic Convoys, and on minesweepers in the English Channel during the latter part of the war. He ended his naval career as a submarinner, retiring in 1959. Back on dry land he ran the Farmhouse Hotel, Lower Swell, Gloucestershire, 1960-68, and then became a science teacher at Oakley Hall School, Cirencester, 1968-89. Lt. Cmdr. Walpole was a direct descendent of England’s first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole (First Earl of Orford, 1676-1745). (-)

* Coin Cabinet: a substantial and well preserved George IV period rosewood veneered coin cabinet on stand, with panelled double doors, with lock and key, and fitted with two stacks of drawers, each side comprising 26 drawers pierced for coins of various diameters and a further 4 plain drawers, the cabinet set upon ornate stand; 90cms wide x 40cms deep x 54cms high and set upon stand with an additional height of 66cms, in very fine condition
* Coin Cabinet: a 19th century Indian rosewood veneered coin cabinet, the rectangular moulded top incorporating a single drawer, the panelled double doors, with lock but lacking key, opening to reveal five drawers, each of which contains five velvet-lined trays, mostly fitted to contain coins of various sizes, the interior of the doors leather bound in red and gilt morocco, the sides with wooden carrying handles and the top and front doors inlaid with mother-of pearl floral motifs, 38cms wide x 28cms x 43cms high, requiring some restoration

*Naval History. A pen and ink chart showing the positions of the ships under the order of Rear Admiral The Hon. Sir Henry Hotham and of Admiral Sir John Duckworth, at the time of Buonaparte’s surrender, illustrating the difficulty which he would have experienced in an attempt to escape, July 15th 1815, watermark date of 1817, showing the outline of France, The Bay of Biscay and the Coast of Northern Spain, detailing the positions of each ship, in an unidentified neat hand, 46 x 46 cm, contained in an old envelope captioned in the hand of Hotham’s son, the Reverend Henry John Hotham, together with a near-contemp. pen and ink sketch of the naval battle of Sables d’Olonne, fought on 23rd February 1809, in which HMS Defiance under Vice Admiral Sir Henry Hotham destroyed the French frigates Calypso, Cyvele and Italienne, 20 x 31 cm, together with four copies of a long and detailed letter from Captain H. F. Senhouse, Flight Captain to Sir Henry Hotham, written to his wife on the occasion of the surrender of Napoleon on 15th July 1815, noting ‘Napoleon’s person I was very desirous of seeing but on doing so, I was disappointed. His figure was bad, he is short with large head, his hands and legs small and his body so corpulent as to project very considerably, his coat made very plain as you see it in most prints and from being very short in the back it gives his figure a more ridiculous appearance that it has naturally ...’, one copy of the letter copied by Hotham’s son and annotated by him, plus three copies including one duplicate of extracts from the private memoirs of Admiral Sir William Hotham (1772-1848), again copied by the son of Henry Hotham, concerning Napoleon and his reasons for not wanting to have fallen at Moscow, the letters contained in four old envelopes, three docketed in the hand of Hotham’s son, plus a cabinet photo of the bust of Henry Hotham and three facsimile copies of the Times relating to the Battles of the Nile (1798) and Trafalgar (1805, 2 copies) (13)

An early 18th century walnut table cabinet, crossbanded and inlaid stringing, the veneered top above a cushion frieze drawer, the later hinged door veneered with burr walnut and amboyna, the reverse inlaid a parquetry star, enclosing eight drawers around a pull-out mirrored and giltwood recess with a parquetry chequer floor, the back fitted with two secret drawers, above a base drawer on flattened bun feet, 14.5in (36.7cm) h, 14.5in (37.2cm) w, 8.5in (21.8cm) d. Old repairs, restorations and replacements.
A late 19th century Italian marquetry table cabinet, with an olive wood ground and star motifs with a Greek key border, the top with a bronzed handle, the fall reverse inlaid a central portrait bust surrounded by grotesques, revealing an arrangement of eight drawers with similar inlaid fronts with drop handles, 8.5in (21.5cm) h, 10.25in (26cm) w, 8in (20cm) d.
