A Victorian mahogany dwarf specimen cabinet, the single door enclosing two banks of ten short drawers over five long drawers on a plinth base CONDITION REPORTS Height approx 73.5 cm x width approx 47 cm x approx 41.5 cm. Cabinet has numerous surface scratches, dents, gouges, loss to the varnish, some splitting to the wood, some losses and splitting to the veneer on the door. Discolouration, stains and fading throughout. There is no key. General wear and tear commensurate with age and use - see images for details
A Continental cabinet cup with painted decoration in the manner of Teniers of a girl reading a book with two onlookers, heavy gilt highlights and indistinct mark to base in the manner of Sèvres CONDITION REPORTS Large areas of loss, wear and fading to the gilt work both on the inside and outside of the cup and on the handle. Vintage unsigned cabinet photograph, the image depicting Dostoyevsky in a classic head and shoulders formal pose. Very small overall, minor age wear, with upper left corner very slightly damaged. G £100-120
[ALFONSO XIII]: (1886-1941) King of Spain 1886-1931. D.S., `Yo el Rey´, two pages, folio, Palacio, 20th June 1920, in Spanish. The partially printed document bears the heading The King, and is the appointment of Luis Canbot y Rubio as Lieutenant of artillery. The document bears a blind embossed seal of King Alfonso XIII alongside his stamped signature. Countersigned at the base by the Minister of war Luis de Marichalar y Monreal. With three additional countersignatures to the second page, alongside ink stamps from military departments of Barcelona. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by an unsigned contemporary 4 x 6 cabinet photograph in very fine condition, the Valentin Gomez image, Madrid, showing a young King Alfonso XIII, standing, in a three quarter length pose, in uniform. With few very small stains not affecting the signature, folded, otherwise VG £100-150
NAPOLEON IV: (1856-1879) Prince Imperial, the only child of Emperor Napoleon III and his Empress consort Eugenie de Montijo. Extremely rare S.P. `Louis-Napoleon´, to a visiting card sepia 2.5 x 4 photograph, the image depicting a very young Napoleon, standing in a cabinet full length pose. Signed in bold fountain pen ink to the lower white border. The signature corresponds to December 1868, when Napoleon was only twelve years old and was still signing with his full name Louis-Napoleon, shortly after he would start signing as Napoleon only. The card also bears to the lower white border a printed crown. Signed photographs of Napoleon IV are rare and desirable as a result of his death at the early age of 23, but with this form of signature only very few have been found in decades of auctions records. Attractively matted in beige and gilt, framed in wood and glazed to an overall size of 7.5 x 9.5. VG £600-900
[BELGIUM]: An excellent selection of Autograph Statements signed by a variety of famous Belgian personalities, beneath an original pen and ink drawing by the German-Swiss artist Robert Kastor, the well-executed works depicting each Belgian personality in head and shoulders poses, one page each, large folio, various places and dates, comprising Emile Vandervelde (1866-1938) Statesman, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs and Justice, also Belgian war cabinet member during WWI. A socialist figure nicknamed “The Boss”; Paul Hymans (1865-1941) Minister of Justice and Foreign Affairs during WWI. President of the League of Nations, stating `Le civisme ne donne pas la gloire. Mais il fait l´honneur et la prospérité des peoples libres´; Jules Destrée (1863-1936) Walloon Politician. Destrée wrote a Letter to the King (1912) which is considered the founding declaration of the Walloon movement; Adolphe Max (1869-1939) Mayor of Brussels for 30 consecutive years 1909-39, stating `La popularité est la pire des servitudes´, and Edward Anseele, and Hector Dennis. CHURCHILL WINSTON S.: (1874-1965) British Prime Minister 1940-45, 1951-55. Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1953. T.L.S., with his initial W, and with holograph subscription, one page, 8vo, Hyde Park Gate, London, 5th December 1959, to [Norman] Brook. Churchill announces 'I have been admiring the beautiful and original silver box which you gave me for my Birthday' and thanks his correspondent for their kind thought. Churchill further adds a holograph sentence at the conclusion, 'I treasure it greatly'. Annotated in pencil in an unidentified hand at the foot of the page indicating that the gift was a snuff box made by the Birmingham silversmiths Thropp & Taylor in 1810. VG £600-900Norman Brook (1902-1967) 1st Baron Normanbrook. British Civil Servant who served as Cabinet Secretary 1947-62 and head of the Home Civil Service 1956-62. Brook was one of the twelve pallbearers at Churchill's funeral in 1965.
[PAUL I]: (1754-1801) Emperor of Russia 1796-1801. The only son of Peter III and Catherine the Great. Assassinated. A very interesting A.L., three pages, 4to, Berlin, 7th April 1801, to the priest of Franconville, convent of Franciscan in Vienna, in French. The letter is most probably written by a diplomat close to Bourbons, and refers to the recent assassination of the Emperor Paul I on 23rd March, only two weeks before the present letter was written. Bearing to the fourth page and beneath the addressee name a red wax seal in very fine condition with the initials V.C. The letter first instructs where to send from now on the letters which may have anything to do with the King, and states in part `..The death of the Emperor of Russia increases one more level the complicated situation of affairs. It is impossible to deal or negotiate anything before knowing the persons that the Emperor will appoint to his cabinet. I might be wrong but I am almost convinced that Count Panine will reappear once again...´ further saying `..I am persuaded that the relationships with Vienna will be immediately reestablished… The Russian influence still seemed to be fighting against the French greed, and I fear that a Prince wiser than his father although less redoubtable will be able to continue acting in the same way.. and the events are still playing in favour of French..´ and before concluding he adds `..The last news from Russia were announcing a huge discontent of the Emperor towards the French behavior.. The whole would have ended with a rupture if the most unexpected death wouldn´t have saved once more Bonaparte.´ Further referring to the King of France, the English in Denmark and other political matters. A letter of excellent content, bearing an attractive watermark. Very small area of paper loss to the last page, only very slightly affecting few words, as a result of the opening of the letter. Nikita Petrovich Panin (1770-1837) Count Panin. Russian Diplomat and foreign affairs Minister. Panin plotted the assassination of the Emperor Paul I. Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. Louis XVIII (1755-1824) King of France 1795-1824, with a brief interruption during the Hundred Days in 1815.
[NICHOLAS II & FEODOROVNA ALEXANDRA]: Nicholas II (1868-1918) Emperor of Russia 1894-1917, and Alexandra Feodorovna (1872-1918) Empress Consort of Russia, wife of Tsar Nicholas II. The last Tsarina of Russia, known for her notorious friendship with the Russian mystic Rasputin. Both assassinated. A very fine 4 x 6.5 cabinet card photograph, unsigned. The Levitsky image, from Saint Petersburg, shows the Tsar seated and the Empress standing alongside, both wearing their coronation ceremony robes. Beneath the image bearing the embossed silver logo of "Levistsky - Photographers of His Imperials Majesties, St. Petersburg", in French. To the verso showing also the printed name and address of photographer Levitsky, telephone 2310, Kazan street, Saint Petersburg, in Cyrillic and French, with an ink stamp in Cyrillic. The coronation robes being the same used the first time by Michael Romanov, first of Romanov´s Tsars, crowned in 1613. FEODOROVNA ALEXANDRA: (1872-1918) Alix of Hesse. Empress Consort of Russia 1894-1917, wife of Tsar Nicholas II. The last Tsarina of Russia, known for her notorious friendship with the Russian mystic Rasputin. An excellent set of two documents comprising a 4 x 6.5 cabinet photograph of the Empress, photograph by Pasetti in St. Petersburg, with two annotations in her hand, most probably addressed to the photographer, indicating the changes she expects on this photograph. At the base of the image, to the white lower border and beneath her printed name in Cyrillic, Alexandra Feodorovna annotates `à refaire´ in French, (“to redo”), and to the upper left corner she adds ` 2 Col´. To the upper left corner, in another hand, annotated `Enlevez l´ombre´, “take off the shadow”. Bearing to the verso the A. Pasetti printed logo, including a list of Royalty family members they are photographers of, such as the Saxe Meiningen court or the Queen of Greece, Grand Dukes and Grand Duchesses, etc.. Together with an A.N.S., `Alexandra´, to her personal 3.5 x 2.5 card, in Frencg, bearing to the left border a Royal gilt crown embossed, above her gilt embossed name, Alexandra, in capital Cyrillic letters. The Empress sends a warm message `Avec mes felicitations de coeur´, Alexandra´, also dated in her hand, 7th March 1913. Matted in purple, attractively framed in gilt wood, richly ornated and glazed to an overall size of 11 x 16.5. The framing shows to the verso, also glazed, the verso of the photograph and the card. Pair of late 19th Century Japanese black lacquer table cabinets, each of rectangular form with landscape decorated top over twin doors with shaped strap hinges enclosing five short and two long drawers on shaped apron, the decorated sides with carrying handles, 47cm x 34cm x 44cm high Condition: One cabinet has flaking to front edge of top, plus similar losses to side edge of same, flaking to aprons of both, crack to rear panel of same cabinet, plus minor flaking to back corners, flaking to both aprons and some colour fading to both - SOLD AS SEEN - **General condition consistent with age

A small cabinet piano by Clementi, London, circa 1810 The mahogany case inlaid with ebony lines, the curved fall board cross-banded with rosewood with its interior veneered in satinwood and inlaid with ebony lines. A panel of plain cloth above the keyboard. Pierced gilt rails run above the fall board, and front the frieze. Two turned and reeded legs to the front with gilt metal collars. Two pivoting candlestick holders. The satinwood nameboard inlaid with ebony lines, inscribed within a gilded floral plaque: Clementi & Co, London. The five and a half octave keyboard FF-c4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Sticker action. Two pedals controlling keyboard shift and dampers.
