[LOUIS XVI DEATH SENTENCE]: LOUIS XVI (1754-1793) King of France 1774-91 & 1791-92. An extraordinary set of contemporary printed original documents, over two thousand pages, dated 1792-93, issued by the Convention and related to King Louis XVI trial in December 1792, and death sentence, including the official print entitled `Trial of Louis Capet, sentenced to death without suspension by the representatives of the sovereign people´, the text includes the detailed votes on the high treason accusation, and states `Death has been sentenced with a majority of five votes´, also reporting on the King´s guilt and instructions to his brothers, creating an army in Coblenz, assassinating people in Nancy with Lafayette and Bouillé´s help, and for the massacre of the 10th August at the Tuileries palace. The four pages document concludes stating `The National Convention orders that Louis Capet, King of the French here present, will be executed within twenty four hours.´ Overall age wear with edges partially trimmed; Together with an excellent set of printed contemporary documents, over one thousand five hundred pages, 8vo, containing the opinions and conclusions of 170 members of the Convention, out of 713, regarding the accusation against the King and the sentence that should be approved, including the opinions of Marat (two texts, 10 and 22 pages, entitled `Marat´s opinion, L´Ami du Peuple, deputy at the National Convention, about the ex-monarch trial´, and `Marat´s speech on the defense of Louis XVI, the behaviour the Convention should have, and the alarming attitude of the Royalists..´ ), Desmoulins, St-Just, Couthon, Brissot, Barbaroux, Buzot, Carra, Drouet, Fouché, etc… Also including five volumes of printed documents issued by the Convention regarding the King´s trial, over one thousand one hundred pages, 8vo, entitled `Documents supporting the denounce of Louis Capet crimes..´, `Documents supporting the crimes committed by the King´, `..documents presented by the extraordinary committee of the Twelve, regarding the documents found in the iron cabinet at the Tulieries castle..´. VIEUXTEMPS HENRI: (1820-1881) Belgian Composer and Violinist. Signed 4 x 6 cabinet photograph, with additional signed inscription and autograph musical quotation to the verso by Vieuxtemps. The Anvers Photographie Artisitique depicting the Belgian composer in a half length formal pose. Signed in bold black fountain pen ink (`H. Vieuxtemps´)at the base of the image, to the lower light border. To the verso, Vieuxtemps states in French `To Mme Placide Colsoul, as a testimony of my gratitude and souvenir of the 27th January 1877. Verviers, January 1877 - H. Vieuxtemps´. Extremely rare vintage signed cabinet photograph by Wesenberg & Co. of Saint Petersburg, the image depicting Turgenev in a formal semi profile half length pose. Signed `I. Turgenev´ in bold black fountain pen ink to a clear area of the image, in Cyrillic. Photographer´s imprint to the verso, in Cyrillic. "Wesenberg & Co., Saint Petersburg, Voznesensky Avenue nº 32". Together with A.L.S., Marcel Prevost, one page, 8vo, bearing an ink stamp from his own library, being a fourteen verses poem entitled Sonnet sur une épure, a youth work by Prevost stating `..Vois ce joli contour, cette ligne si pure, - Le point rond s'unissant au trait fin continu, - Vois le commun solide ombré comme nature - Par le raisonnement dans les airs soutenu..´; Also including A.L.S., Marcel Prevost, on a postcard showing to the front an image his property of Chateau de la Roche. TIRPITZ ALFRED VON: (1849-1930) German Grand Admiral of World War I. T.L.S., v. Tirpitz, with two lines of holograph text, one page, 4to, Berlin, 30th November 1926, to Herr von Schack, Master of the Horse, Estates Manager to the Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, in German. Tirpitz explains the delay in replying to his correspondent's letter, as he was moving to Berlin, and asks for his respectful thanks be given to his Royal Highness for their kind invitation to Coburg on 18th January 1927, commenting 'Since I cannot at the moment foresee how I shall be placed, I should like to be allowed one or two weeks before giving a definite promise.' [ALFONSO XII OF SPAIN]: (1857-1885) King of Spain 1874-85. Died at the very early age of 27. D.S., `Yo el Rey´, two pages, folio, Palacio, 20th October 1880, in Spanish. The partially printed document bears the heading Don Alfonso XII, Constitutional King of Spain, and is the appointment of Juan Lopez Lomo as first class Knight of the military merit, for his services given during the besiege of Pamplona. The document bears a blind embossed seal of King Alfonso XII alongside his stamped signature. Countersigned at the base by Jose de Echavarria. With three additional countersignatures to the second page, alongside green ink stamps from military departments of Andalucia. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by a contemporary 2 x 4 cabinet photograph of a young King Alfonso XII in a head and shoulders pose. Folded. With few very small stains not affecting the signature, otherwise VG £100-150

The partially printed document bears the heading The King, and is the appointment of Luis Canbot y Rubio as Lieutenant of artillery. The document bears a blind embossed seal of King Alfonso XIII alongside his stamped signature. Countersigned at the base by the Minister of war Luis de Marichalar y Monreal. With three additional countersignatures to the second page, alongside ink stamps from military departments of Barcelona. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by an unsigned contemporary 4 x 6 cabinet photograph in very fine condition, the Valentin Gomez image, Madrid, showing a young King Alfonso XIII, standing, in a three quarter length pose, in uniform. NAPOLEON III: (1808-1873) Emperor of the French 1852-70, the nephew and heir of Napoleon I. First President of France 1848-52, therefore holding the distinction of being the first titular president and the last monarch of France. A.L.S., Napoleon, one page, 8vo, Wilhelmshöhe, 18th September 1870, to an unidentified lady, in French. Napoleon III thanks his correspondent for her letter and states ´I am very touched Madame by the feelings and words you express to me at this time of my misfortune…´ A touching message from Germany where Napoleon was just starting this captivity period. Accompanied by a 4 x 2.5 sepia cabinet photograph, by E. Flamant, Paris, the image showing the "Death of Emperor Napoléon III" photomontage. With blank integral leaf. Extremely small foxing stains, otherwise VG £300-400On 3rd September 1870, and as a result of the defeat of the French army at the battle of Sedan, Napoleon III and Bismarck agreed the terms of French surrender. From 5 September 1870 until 19 March 1871, an ill Napoleon III and his close entourage were held in captivity in a castle at Wilhelmshöhe near Kassel, where the present letter was written.
NAPOLEON IV: (1856-1879) Prince Imperial, the only child of Emperor Napoleon III and his Empress consort Eugenie de Montijo. Very rare signed sepia 4 x 6 cabinet photograph, the image depicting the Prince in a formal head and shoulders pose. Signed `Napoleon´ in black ink to the lower white border of the photograph. Also inscribed by Napoleon to the verso, adding the date 22nd October 1877 in his hand. Prince Imperial Napoleon Bonaparte died at the very early age of 23, killed by Zulus during the Zulu War. PICQUART GEORGES: (1854-1914) French army officer and Minister of War. He is best known for his role in the Dreyfus Affair, he strongly supported Dreyfus´ innocence and was arrested. Signed and inscribed 4 x 7 cabinet photograph, the Gerschely photograph, Paris, shows General Picquart standing, in a half length pose, in uniform. Signed and inscribed in bold black ink to the lower left corner (`G. Picquart´), dated 23rd April 1900 in his hand. VG £150-200
SADAT ANWAR EL: (1918-1981) President of Egypt 1970-81 & Prime Minister of Egypt 1980-81. Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1978. Assassinated. A good bold black ink signed card, `A.Sadat´, also signed in Arabic, to a 5 x 3.5 white card, inscribed to Paul, bearing at the head the golden embossed eagle of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and dated 17th February 1979 in Sadat´s hand. Accompanied by the original printed stationery envelope and letter from the President´s Cabinet, Public Relations Department, signed at Cairo, 26th March 1979, referring to the request of this autograph of President Sadat. ELIZABETH I OF RUSSIA: (1709-1762) Empress of Russia 1741-62. L.S., Elizabeth, in Cyrillic, one page, folio, Saint Petersburg, 20th December 1737, in Cyrillic. The manuscript document signed by Her Imperial Majesty is an edict Cabinet Chancery payment stating in part `Our above mentioned Chancery has paid to Our Cabinet seven hundred roubles, amount which has been received.´ Bearing to the base of the document two contemporary additional lines written in another hand. A 20th century Sevres cabinet cup and saucer. With raised tooled gilding and enamelled with three portraits of ladies. Painted and printed marks, saucer 16.75cm diameter (2). Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. Some gilt loss. Very minor chip to the lower handle terminal. Slight patch of fitting to the rear rim of the saucer. No repair.
A rare Rockingham three legged cabinet jug with rustic handle and applied flowers. Painted with a continuing landscape populated with birds in the manner of John Randall and gilded. Unmarked c1830, 10.5cm. Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. One leg re glued. Some enamel flaking to the underside has been re touched. Gilt wear.
