A Swansea porcelain cabinet-cup and saucer, c.1815-17, the cup of slightly flared form on three gilt paw feet, finely painted with a band of Vitruvian scroll floral garlands, an elaborate gilt border below, the interior with a similar border, the gilt scrolling handle with a female mask terminal, the saucer similarly decorated around a central bouquet of flowers, the cup - 12cm high Condition Report: The cabinet cup has a repair to one foot, which has been broken off and re-attached in an amateur fashion, leaving an obvious repair line and adhesive residue, and resulting in dome loss of gilding to the foot. There is a chip to the underside of this foot, and a very small loss of porcelain to the rim of the cup just above the repaired foot. Otherwise there is some rubbing to the lower gilt border around the exterior of the cup. No other signs of damage or restoration to the cup. There is a small D-shaped shallow chip to the rim of the saucer (approximately 5 mm. x 10mm.) – this has been retouched with a little gold paint at some point in an effort to disguise it. The gilt dentil border immediately adjacent to it has also been retouched with the gold paint – probably in an attempt to blend it in (however, it needs to be removed and restored again. The same has happened to a nearby smaller chip to the underside of the rim. A restorer could remove this paint, and the original gilding is almost certainly still there underneath the paint). At approximately the other side of the rim of the saucer there is some rubbing to the original gilding. The footrim of the saucer has wear consistent with age. No other signs of damage or restoration to the saucer.
