The copper engr. are after Jacques Callot, executed by Joost van Sassen, Andries van Buysen de Vader, Fopje Folkema, P. van Buyssen, Isak Ledeboer, Jacob Keijser, Anna Folkema, J. Folkema and published by Wilhelmus Koning. Note in pencil on endpaper. Title w. sm. dam. r.h. corner outside of the image. Faded gilt edges. Probably first Dutch ed. Several early 18th. cent. ed. are known. A rare work in which the characters appear in the elaborate dress and hairstyles of early Baroque Europe and show the trades and scenes of daily life of that period w. humorous captions.
