A huge collection of wooden letter press, including three boxed collections, "Celtic Border" and "Empire Border" by Day & Collins, fancy blocks, including Delittle, York, some huge blocks. The whole collection includes a wooden forty-tray cabinet and numerous other cabinets. This lot also includes a large collection of metal letter press, mostly housed in small wooden chests.
An exceptional Anglo Japanese ebonised corner cabinet in the manner of Godwin, the upper section with a flared canopy above an open mirrored shelf and flanked by fluted horns, a small cupboard with gilt and pen-work decorated panels above a mirrored recess. The base with a pair of fruit and branch decorated panelled doors, above and open shelf on turned legs with plain brass sleeve feet. Maximum width 33 1/2ins., height 83 1/2ins.

*Oxford University Rowing. A cartes-de-visite album, c. 1880s, comprising sixty-six individual portraits, five multiple image cartes-de-visite of the Oxford University crews for 1883-1887, and ten cabinet cards, many of the cartes signed and eleven with pencilled rowing position numbers on mounts beneath, some spotting to mounts, contemp. diced calf gilt with clasp, rubbed, 4to, together with an unrelated photo album, c. 1900, including many pasted in small format b&w snapshots in India, some of polo and football matches, plus an unrelated small Victorian cartes-de-visite album, some window mounts with signed sentiment of the sitters pasted on, including William Fell, Oliver Graham, Sarah M. Hope, H. Taylor and a few unrelated cabinet cards loosely inserted The cartes-de-visite album appears to contain mostly formal studio head and shoulders portraits of Oxford rowers of the period. (3)
