A fine ebony and marquetry secretaire cabinet by Hunsinger, Paris, circa 1880, with a pair of architectural doors and a secretaire drawer, signed Hunsinger a Paris on the lock h.166cm.; w.85cm.; d.49cm. Charles Hunsinger (1823-1893), specialised in furniture made with ebony and ivory marquetry. He became established at 244 rue du Fauborg-Saint-Antoine in 1863 and transferred his workshop to 56, rue de la Roquette in 1867, together with 13, rue Sedaine in 1874. In 1872, he formed a business with Charles-Adolphe-Federic Wagner. They took part in the Paris Exhibitions of 1865, 1867, 1868 and 1889 and won a gold medal at Brussels in 1881.

A pair of George III waiters, each with a gadrooned border on three scroll feet and engraved with a crest, London 1794 by Robert Sharp, 16.5cm diameter (6.5 in), 547g (17.5 oz) The crest and coronet of Edward Law, born 1750, MP 1801-2, Attorney General 1801, Lord Chief Justice of England 1802-18, created BARON ELLENBOROUGH 1802. Member of the 'All Talents' Cabinet 1806-7. Died 1818. From 1794-1802. Law was counsel for the crown at various state trials. He may have been presented with these waiters as a result. Knighted 1801. Peerage 1802, and the coronet was perhaps then added to previous engraving.
