Henry VII (1485-1509), Facing Bust issue, Second period, Groat, class IVa, mm. cross-crosslet, crown with single arch, double saltires before civi and lon, after tas and don, 3.03g/6h (P & W IVa; SCBI Ashmolean 428ff; N 1706a; S 2200). Nearly extremely fine with attractive cabinet toning £500-£700 --- One of the saltire ornaments on the arch of the crown appears above the inner circle next to the mintmark
A mahogany coin cabinet, 49 x 43 x 60cm, comprising 38 [of 39] trays, 36 doubly-pierced to house over 2,000 coins of different sizes, the trays with brass runners, ivory pulls [some lacking], double inlaid doors, lock [no key]; fitted to a matching mahogany stand, 28cm high. A very substantial museum-quality cabinet, the exterior in excellent condition but the interior would benefit from careful restoration, the trays lacking many felts £300-£500

Henry VI (First reign, 1422-1461), Trefoil issue, Class A, Groat, London, mm. cross IIIb, small leaf on breast, trefoils by neck and after rex, don and mevm, reads fran, sivitas and adivtor, 3.78g/6h (Whitton –; N 1496; S 1908). Better than very fine, old dark cabinet toned; very rare with the error legend £150-£180 --- Provenance: Bt W. T. Read; W.C. Boyd Collection, Baldwin Auction 42, 26 September 2005, lot 934 [with original ticket] Struck from the same dies as the Hulett specimen (DNW 145, 24) Within the reverse inner legend the first S and the V in SIVITAS have been double entered, along with the second N in LONDON
Harold I (1035-1040), Penny, Long Cross Fleur-de-Lis type, Thetford, Leofwine, harold recx an, rev. +leofpine on ðeo, fleur-de-lis between two pellets, 1.08g/9h (Carson 36; BEH 13, same dies; N 803; S 1165). Henry V (1413-1422), Definitive issues, Groat, class Cb, mm. cross pattée (with sunken centre on rev.), no fleurs over crown, mullet on king’s sinister shoulder, rev. early p, quatrefoil after posvi, double saltire after tas, 3.86g/3h (Stewartby p.324; Potter VIIb; N 1387(b); S 1765). Kings of Wessex, Alfred the Great (871-99), Penny, Phase III, Two Line type, Mercian dies, Dudig, aelfred re+ divided into four sections around small cross pattée, rev. dvdig mon+ in two lines divided by three crosses, 1.52g/9h (BMC 396; N 637; S 1066). Overstruck on another Two Line type of Alfred, otherwise good very fine, dark toned £1,200-£1,500 --- Provenance: Bt L.S. Forrer July 1952 The unusual fabric of this coin is also evident in Rashleigh’s (lot 229) Dudig penny which came originally from the Cuff cabinet.
