A Chinese gilt decorated black lacquered elm wood compound cabinet, probably Qing Dynasty, mid-19th 20th century, the four upper cupboard sections each with a pair of three panelled doors painted with precious objects and flowers, with brass lock plates and hinges, on a three drawer base with slatted undertier, on stile feet, 41¼ x 16in. (104.75 x 40.5cm.), 63in. (160cm.) high.* Provenance: The Tomlinson Collection Co. Ltd., Bangkok, Thailand, 1999, with certificate of antiquity.

A Japanese hardwood wall hanging cabinet, probably late 19th century, the central cupboard with two doors and a drawer beneath, flanked by eight open shelves, decorated with numerous embossed menuki, depicting insects, flowers and other motifs, 18½ x 11 3/8in. (47 x 29cm.), 3½in. (8.9cm.) deep. * Condition: Two menuki detached and another missing. Several with partial losses. One corner of the bottom shelf has been broken off and has a glued repair.

A Chinese carved hardwood table cabinet, probably 19th century, the panelled top over a pierced five panel frieze with dragon motifs, above a pair of doors to the centre with lower bas relief panels carved with vases below reticulated panels with figures amidst flowering plants, the three larger reticulated panels beneath with figures amidst trees, the sides with glazed panels over lower panels carved with auspicious objects, on four curled feet, 17¼ x 9¾in. (43.8 x 24.8cm.), 18½in. (47cm.) high. * Condition: Fading to top and a shrinkage crack across the panel. Fading to colour to left hand side. The right hand glazed panel is missing part of the pierced frame and a section is replaced to the glazed panel on the left side. Small shrinkage crack to top of the right hand door.

Lot 1442

A good quality miniature cabinet-maker’s work bench, probably a salesman sample or apprentice piece, satin walnut with two drawers and two functioning vices, 9¼ x 5¾in. (23.5 x 14.6cm.), 3 3/8 in. (8.6cm.) high. * Condition: One vice handle snapped off, otherwise very good.

Lot 20

A group of 19th century decorative plates, including a pair of blue and white transferware plates and a matching soup dish; another pearlware blue and white soup dish; a Brownfield plate with blue and white willow pattern within pink and gilt borders with cranes in flight, impressed mark; and five others, two cracked. (10) * Condition: The Minton cabinet plate with handpainted chicks in badly cracked. The smaller puce bordered plate with handpainted floral spray has a hairline to the base (not visible from upper surface). The others good with some gilt wear.

(44.5 x 44.5cm).*This portrait of the famous Jersey born actress and society beauty, relates to a photograph issued as an albumen printed cabinet card by W & D Downey in the early to mid 1880's .Lillie Langtry is shown three quarter length in the photograph and the artist has added blue irises in the painting. * Condition: Relined re-using the original stretcher. Repaired three inch tear centre right. Slightly pronounced craquelure and stretcher marks visible. Otherwise in good sound condition.

(72.5 x 31.75cm.), 84in. (213.25cm.) high.

This item has been registered as exempt from the UK Ivory Act 2018 on account of it being made before 3rd March 1947 with less than 10% ivory by volume.
