Sormani, 10 Rue Charlot, Paris, circa 1870, 157cms h 70cms w, 40cms dPaul Sormani was a pre-eminent French cabinet maker of the 19th Century, born in Italy in 1817. After moving to Paris he established his firm in 1847 at 7 Cimetiere Saint-Nicholas, later moving to 10 Rue Charlot in 1867Sormani regularly exhibited at the International Exhibitions of Paris and London, winning numerous awards. The Empress Eugenie (wife of Napoleon III) becoming one of his regular customersAfter his death, his widow and son continued the business, these pieces were normally signed Veuve Sormani & Fils

An Oak cased HMV model 194 re-entrant tone chamber upright gramophone cabinet, with No.5B soundbox, circa 1930, w.64cm, h.112cm, d.58cm. Cabinet is in very good condition with only minimal age wear.The wood is good, with no peeling.We are unable to ascertain whether the mechanism is in working order.No crank present.
