A late 19th century Chinese hardwood and brass-mounted Mahjong cabinet, the swivel-handle modelled as a bat above a central Shou character and the rest of the cabinet also profusely mounted with various brass symbols including a opposing dragons to each door, the doors opening to reveal four drawers fully fitted with bamboo-backed ivory tables, the outer lower drawer with sticks, further tablets and general Mahjong accessories etc., complete with four tile stands (damage to tile stands and the top left-hand hinge away from the door), (with original brass lock and key)
A mid-19th century rise-and-fall piano-top walnut davenport; the rise-and-fall stationery section above a bowed fall opening to reveal two half-width drawers and leather sliding interior, four true drawers, four dummy drawers and raised on bun feet with recessed castors (57cm wide) The pop up does not work, the weight may have been dislodged and in our opinion will need attention to get it working properly. There is a fault with this, we have managed to get the rising stationary cabinet up but it does not work as it should do with the “secret” release lever inside in the drawer.
A fine 17th century style Flemish court cupboard, the later inverted breakfront green variegated marble top above a very finely carved frieze of leaves and anthemion-style motifs etc., the lower frieze headed with geometric centre and flanked by tightly carved mask heads and scrolling foliage ornament etc., the centre section carved with a female figure holding a knife to her right hand and a head to her left after the Classical story, two doors flank further profusely carved with cherubic style figures and masks etc., and in turn further flanked by male and female figures supporting, the lower section with full width drawer headed with a further mask and flanked by swags etc., the frieze below headed to the corners with ram's head masks, raised on carved bun-style feet, together with associated parts including a carved back section and two supports carved as double caryatid style figures with Baelzebub-style bearded faces, 134cm x 61cm (deepest) x 107cm high We advisethat the extra rectangular carved panel and the two caryatid style supportseach of which are separate although are being offered with the piece and havingaccepted an explanation from the vendor that they have always been together inour opinion these separate pieces are not associated with the cabinet, neitheris the later inverted breakfront green variegated marble top. Overall the cabinet is in generally very goodorder. Some scuffs and small pieces ofwood away and extremities etc., commensurate with age.
