Including Rasputin, The Caucasus, Moscow, Crimea, Emperor Nicholas Alexander, St Petersburg 1917 Demonstration, Cabinet Ministers, Free Russia, Petrograd, Government Officials etc. Also with some GB and European cards, all contained in 3 albums. Alberto Randegger (13 April 1832 – 18 December 1911) was an Italian-born composer, conductor and singing teacher, best known for promoting opera and new works of British music in England during the Victorian era and for his widely used textbook on singing technique. Signed cabinet photograph. Depicts Randegger in a three-quarter pose, the autograph signed in fountain pen and dated Aug. 24th 1896. Size: 16.5cm x 10.5cm. Note: from the large Fisher / Blomfield family archive consigned to this sale. The collection comprises of items from Francis ' FMB ' Marion Bates Fisher (a famous Edwardian Tennis Player ) and features items from the lives of his entire family (most notably that of his eldest daughter Esther Fisher who went on to become an international pianist, his other daughter was Lady Esther Frances Barron and his youngest daughter Alice Blomfield (nee Fisher) whose husband - Siegfried Blomfield - was a noted soldier during WWII and whose daughter (Juliet Blomfield) went on to become a ballet dancer). The family owned many properties both in the UK and New Zealand, and were extremely well travelled. Their friends and acquaintances were some of the most notable characters of our time - Ernest Shackleton , Winston Churchill , Maxine Elliott , Henry Wadsworth Longfellow , John Singer Sargent but to name a few. An incredible collection, of great social interest.
Francis "Frank" Marion Bates Fisher (22 December 1877 – 24 July 1960) was a New Zealand Member of Parliament from Wellington. He was known as Rainbow Fisher for his frequent changes of political allegiance. He was also an internationally successful tennis player. Fisher reached the final of the Australasian Open in 1906 but was defeated by Tony Wilding – Fisher was one of only four New Zealanders to play in the final of a 'Grand Slam' event. He won the New Zealand Men's Championship Doubles in 1901–02, 1902–03, 1909–10 and 1910–11, and the Mixed Doubles Championships in 1899–1900, 1900–01, 1901–02 and 1911–12. Extraordinary personal family archive of letters, photographs and related items. From all aspects of his life and career - the items cover his Boer War years, his time as a member of parliament and also his time as a tennis player. Within the archive are a host of antique cabinet photographs - many Boer War related showing Fisher in uniform. Many of these cabinet photographs are signed with wishes to various members of his family. Also included is a monogrammed blanket 'FMB', two tennis rackets used by Fisher, various real photographic postcards of Fisher with other tennis players, a collection of very early photographs (small) showing Tennis matches at Wimbledon (and other locations), a 'Vote For Fisher ' flyer from his time canvassing in New Zealand, a Great Northern Telegram Co. telegram which reads 'Have you received my letters, His Majesty is waiting for your reply on his question if you will be his partner in the Serce (?) Tournaments beginning June 22nd, James Keiller.' a framed and glazed photograph depicting Fisher (and others) alongside King George VI at a tennis match (and copies thereof), letters to his daughter (Juliet Fisher - ballet dancer) and various other related items. A fascinating collection of personal photographs - all relating to the Fisher / Blomfield family and their exploits during wars (Boer War, WWI & WWII). The collection comprises of various candid images and cabinet photographs depicting both the military and naval members of the family. Of particular note is a Louis Blomfield who was a member of the Navy during the First World War / WWI - various images of him aboard ships and in uniform feature. Of Boer War interest are some images of FMB Fisher taken during his time as a captaina photograph annotated 'River Muar - mine exploding in background ', a WWI era image of a regimental football team with the ball chalked '9th Middlesex Regiment, Ambala, India 1917.'
