A DUTCH WALNUT AND MARQUETRY BUREAU CABINET inlaid throughout with birds and flowers, some picked out in ivory, butterflies, urns and scrolling acanthus leaves,the cabinet with shelves, drawers and a central door enclosing six small drawers, the bureau with candle slides and fitted interior above three graduated drawers, on bun feet, 196cm h; 66 x 104cm, 19th c ++In local private ownership for 60 plus years and in fine condition with only a couple of minor shrinkage cracks, the interior especially colourful, the leaves unfaded retaining the green stain
AN EARLY VICTORIAN ORMOLU MOUNTED WALNUT, STAINED PEARWOOD AND MARQUETRY BUREAU PLAT the top crossbanded in kingwood with strapwork, ribbons and festoons, the frieze with a mahogany lined drawer, on cabriole legs with pierced chutes and sabots, 75cm h; 62 x 110cm The taste for such French style tables in the early Victorian period was mainly promoted by the dealer and manufacturer Edward Holmes Boldock. The particular style of marquetry of the present table is associated with the London cabinet inlayer and manufacturer of `buhl` Robert Blake (d1881). His Stephen St manufactuory was established in the late 1820s and the business was continued by Messrs George Blake & Brothers. A virtually identical table was sold anonymously, Christie`s, London, 14 November 2013 lot 67. ++In excellent original unrestored complete condition with only the odd tiny blemish. A MAUCHLINE `FERN` WARE SMOKERS CABINET late 19th/early 20th century, the hinged rectangular top and door opening to reveal two rows of pipe apertures over a base drawer, the exterior decorated throughout in the typical manner, on a moulded base 27cm(h) x 23cm(w) x 19.5cm(d) Condition Reports: Generally good.
AN EDWARDIAN INLAID MAHOGANY DISPLAY CABINET having an oblong moulded top, slender carved frieze with repeated foliate and arched design, two long doors with elliptical glazing bars and a central scroll carved and inlaid rail, flanking a slender central column inlaid in the typical manner, the interior with material lined shelving, raised on square section legs. 142cm(h) x 123cm(w) x 47cm(d) Condition Reports: Possibly had a raised mirror back at one time, now lacking, fading, marks and scratches, some staining and discolouration to the interior.
