A 1930's Art Deco oak cabinet bureau bookcase of unusual configuration, glazed doors over panel doors opening to reveal adjustable shelves flanked to the left with a full front bureau with a fully appointed interior over an arrangement of drawers and cupboards. Measures 141cm x 193cm x 31cm.

ERNEST ARCHIBALD TAYLOR (1874-1951) FOR WYLIE & LOCHHEAD, GLASGOW ART NOUVEAU MAHOGANY INLAID DRAWING ROOM CABINET, CIRCA 1900 the projecting cornice with square column supports and cut-out brackets, above two glazed doors enclosing shelves, the base with twin panelled doors, each inlaid in pewter, brass, copper and mother-of-pearl with stylised rosettes, with slatted sided supports linked by stretchers and a lower tier 88cm wide, 177cm high, 47cm deep Literature: 'The Studio' magazine, Vol. 23, No. 101, July 1901, p. 166 where a bookcase of similar form by Wylie & Lochhead, exhibited at the 1901 Glasgow International Exhibition, is illustrated. Note: The inlaid stylized flower motif on the facade of this cabinet is identical to that which featured on a suite of chairs designed by E.A.Taylor for the Wylie & Lochhead Pavilion at the International Exhibition, Glasgow, 1901 and similar to the inlay in the cabinet illustrated in the Studio magazine in July of the same year.
