The text consists of an engraved title page, an introduction by the editor with an engraved vignette, letters XVI and XX from Pliny to Tacitus, a historical note on Vesuvius, a description of its 37 known eruptions with the descriptions of the 25 impressive plates. Apart from the title page, the entire text is in two columns. With it the coloured Vesuvius engraving by Levacher "Éruption de nuit du Mont Vésuve en 1812". Gravure en couleurs de Levacher d'après Colli. 31 x 39 cm. - The pages somewhat brownstained, the engraving rare and with small marginal defects. - Rare set of this important work.
