Actress Diana Manners, 2 signed vintage postcards and an unsigned vintage 10x8 all showing her in character as the Madonna in the 1924 production of The Miracle. Lady Diana Cooper née Manners, socialite and actress and Great Aunt of Prime Minister David Cameron, first became known as a member of The Coterie set in London before the first World War. Following her marriage in 1919 to Alfred Duff Cooper, who was to serve as a minister in Churchills War Cabinet, Lady Dianas reputation as a society hostess was confirmed. Her reputation as a beauty was cemented with Hoppes decision to include her in the 1922, Book of Fair Women. As an actress, her most famous role was as the Madonna in Max Reinhardt's The Miracle, a role she played on Broadway in 1923 and was to play for three years on tour around Europe and in Britain. Russia.- The Crimean War.- War Department (Topographical & Statistical Depót) Collection of seven confidential maps and plans relating to The Crimean War, including two large four-sheet folding maps 'Plan of the Communications from Sevastopol, Balaklava and Baidar to Simferopol' and 'A Plan of the Bay and Fortifications of Eupatoria', two folding double-page titled 'Plan of Otchakov' and a detailed plan 'Sevastopol', with other single sheet plans and maps, with 6pp. letterpress 'confidential' booklet on 'Kronstadt' by William Sadler, lithographs, some hand-colouring, the larger maps dissected and mounted on linen, one with blue-paper ends, all with War Department blind-stamps, all loose, unframed, [circa 1855]. ⁂ Rare. The present lot appears to consist of original plans of the British troops used in the cabinet at the outbreak of the Crimean War.
