An ebonised Morris style two tier occasional table on turned and ringed supports united by a galleried undertier, bearing label to underside "Urquhart & Adamson Cabinet Makers Liverpool", 54 cm wide CONDITION REPORTS Numerous surface scratches, scuffs, accretions and dents to the wood, mainly to the top tier and corners. Areas of the ebonisation are worn. Minor scuffs and scratches to the second tier and to the legs. Wear to the base of the legs. General wear and tear commensurate with age and use. NAPOLEON IV: (1856-1879) Prince Imperial, the only child of Emperor Napoleon III and his Empress consort Eugenie de Montijo. Extremely rare signed 4.5 x 6.5 sepia cabinet photograph, the “London Stereoscopic & Photographic Company” image depicting the Prince in uniform, seated in a formal half length pose. Signed `Napoleon´ in black fountain pen ink to the lower white border of the photograph. The present photograph was signed by Napoleon IV in February 1879, only three months before he was killed, wearing the same uniform shown in the photograph. Prince Imperial Napoleon Bonaparte died at the very early age of 23, killed by Zulus during the Zulu War. G £800-1200
[IMPERIAL RUSSIA]: A good and large collection of original and official printed documents related to the French artillery military delegation invited by the Tsar Nicholas II in 1913 to Saint Petersburg. The delegation was leaded by Colonel, later General, Jean Dumezil (1857-1929). The set of 31 documents includes a 4 x 6 cabinet photograph of Russian officer Jacob von Sivers, signed in bold black ink, dated 1913. Together with a 5.5 x 3.5 original photograph, largely discoloured, showing the Russian artillery officers displaying to the French military delegation their new howitzer. Also including 16 printed 8vo menus, all of them bearing extremely attractive Imperial Russian colour and gilt embossed monogrammes to the headings. Most of the documents are in Cyrillic, some in French. The collection includes printed activity programmes, with meetings with the Tsar at Peterhof, Krasnoe Selo, military maneuvers, theatre and concert, and official menus. EX, 31 £600-900
FEODOROVNA ALEXANDRA: (1872-1918) Alix of Hesse. Empress Consort of Russia 1894-1917, wife of Tsar Nicholas II. The last Tsarina of Russia, known for her notorious friendship with the Russian mystic Rasputin. An excellent set of two documents comprising a 4 x 6.5 cabinet photograph of the Empress, photograph by Pasetti in St. Petersburg, with two annotations in her hand, most probably addressed to the photographer, indicating the changes she expects on this photograph. At the base of the image, to the white lower border and beneath her printed name in Cyrillic, Alexandra Feodorovna annotates `à refaire´ in French, ("to redo"), and to the upper left corner she adds ` 2 Col´. To the upper left corner, in another hand, annotated `Enlevez l´ombre´, "take off the shadow". Bearing to the verso the A. Pasetti printed logo, including a list of Royalty family members they are photographers of, such as the Saxe Meiningen court or the Queen of Greece, Grand Dukes and Grand Duchesses, etc.. Together with an A.N.S., `Alexandra´, to her personal 3.5 x 2.5 card, in Frencg, bearing to the left border a Royal gilt crown embossed, above her gilt embossed name, Alexandra, in capital Cyrillic letters. The Empress sends a warm message `Avec mes felicitations de coeur´, Alexandra´, also dated in her hand, 7th March 1913. Matted in purple, attractively framed in gilt wood, richly ornated and glazed to an overall size of 11 x 16.5. The framing shows to the verso, also glazed, the verso of the photograph and the card. NAPOLEON III: (1808-1873) Emperor of the French 1852-70, the nephew and heir of Napoleon I. First President of France 1848-52, therefore holding the distinction of being the first titular president and the last monarch of France. A.L.S., Napoleon, one page, 8vo, Wilhelmshöhe, 18th September 1870, to an unidentified lady, in French. Napoleon III thanks his correspondent for her letter and states ´I am very touched Madame by the feelings and words you express to me at this time of my misfortune…´ A touching message from Germany where Napoleon was just starting this captivity period. Accompanied by a 4 x 2.5 sepia cabinet photograph, by E. Flamant, Paris, the image showing the "Death of Emperor Napoléon III" photomontage. With blank integral leaf. Extremely small foxing stains, otherwise VG £250-350 On 3rd September 1870, and as a result of the defeat of the French army at the battle of Sedan, Napoleon III and Bismarck agreed the terms of French surrender. From 5 September 1870 until 19 March 1871, an ill Napoleon III and his close entourage were held in captivity in a castle at Wilhelmshöhe near Kassel, where the present letter was written.
LONGFELLOW HENRY WADSWORTH: (1807-1882) American Poet. Vintage signed sepia cabinet photograph by Longfellow, the image depicting the bearded poet in a head and shoulders pose. Photograph by Warren's Portraits of Boston. Signed ('Henry W. Longfellow') in bold dark ink to the lower photographer's mount and dated 1878 in his hand. With a small ink date and annotation in another hand to the lower edge of the photographer's mount. Some slight scuffing at the base, only very slightly affecting the signature. Together with a fine, dark ink signature ('Henry W. Longfellow') and date, 1882, in his hand on an oblong 12mo slip of paper. G to VG, 2 £100-150

Vintage signed cabinet photograph, the sepia image depicting the King in head and shoulders pose (the image having been re-touched with brown ink). Signed ('Albert Edward') in fountain pen ink to a light area to the foot of the image, and dated 14th August 1882 in the Kings hand. Together with ALEXANDRA OF DENMARK (1844-1925) Queen of the United Kingdom 1901-10, consort of King Edward VII. Vintage signed cabinet photograph by Hansen & Weller, Copenhagen, the sepia image depicting the Queen in full length pose leaning on a parlour chair. Signed ('Alexandra') in bold black fountain pen ink to a clear area at foot of the image. With signs of former mounting to the verso of both images. G, £100-150 Both images are annotated to the verso with an inscription stating they were originally in the possession of Capt. Alfred Balliston, the commander of HMY's 'Elfin' and 'Alberta'.
