An archive of material pertaining to the family of John Ure, Scottish merchant and Lord Provost of Glasgow 1880-83; and his son Alexander, 1st Baron Strathclyde, judge and politician Including a maroon Morocco-clad tube embossed in gilt "General Election 1885, Central Parliamentary Division of Glasgow, Requisition Presented to John Ure, Ex-Lord Provost", containing thirty-one sheets of signatories, nominating Ure as parliamentary candidate; a scrapbook of press cuttings, dinner invitations etc. relating to his time as Lord Provost; four photograph albums to include views of Cairndhu, Helensburgh (the house commissioned by John Ure from architect William Leiper); assorted handwritten documents, to include a sheaf titled "Glasgow, 17 Sept. 1909, City Hall, Budge's Speech in Answer to Lord Rosebery" on House of Commons stationary; typed speeches dated variously circa-1906; a document marked Secret and Confidential, Printed for use of the Cabinet authored by Alexander Ure, titled "Valuation", remarking on a memorandum by the Attorney-General; a humorous invitation addressed to Miss Ure on paper headed for 19 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh etc. Condition Report:Available upon request
