Lot 257

A pair of Sampson Hancock Derby cabinet plates painted by W.Jones c.1900the centres painted with pheasants in a woodland landscape and signed W.Jones, raised beaded border and dense gilt scrollwork outer border with raised scrolls, gadrooned rim, S&H crossed swords mark in red, (2)diameter 22.5cm.Condition:Plate with the two smaller pheasant is in near fine condition. The other plate has a hairline crack running round the centre of the plate. Barely visible from front but running a fingernail across it it can be felt. Otherwise gilding bright and in good condition. Faint postcode marks to plate backs.

The plate with pike with a faint hairline running round centre of plate and fleabite loss. Feint postcodes marks to plate backs

A Japanese Meiji Period stained elm and lacquer table cabinet (Kodansu)early 20th centuryof freestanding form, with side handles and etched metal hinges and escutcheons, the doors enclosing an interior with six drawers above one long drawer, decorated with birds and flowering branchesheight 33cm, width 39.5cm, depth 22cmCondition:With a key. One rear corner mount loose, some narrow timber loss to this area. There is a 3cm high later oak strip added to back lower edge, see image.

A Napoleon III ebony and gilt brass mounted pier cabinetmid 19th centurywith ebonised elements, the associated black marble top with canted corners above a gadrooned and acanthus cast frieze, the door with a central coloured stone oval flowering vase within a ribbon tied laurel mount, the corners with putti mounts, on a plinth base with a central Bacchus maskProvenance;This cabinet belonged to Heather Mary Harper CBE, (1930-2019) the Northern Irish operatic soprano.height 133cm, width 110cm, depth 47cmCondition:Three veneer splits to the door. Lower right mount to door is detached but present, the upper right hand mount is loose. There is loose brass stringing to the right hand side which needs attention. Some losses to the inlaid hardstones on the door, see image. Lot 6

A George III mahogany bookcase cabinetcirca 1760of one piece, the dentil cut cornice above a blind fret frieze, the pair of glazed panel doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the base with a pair of flame panel doors and four ribbon tied and diamond mouldings, on a plinth baseheight 237cm, width 167cm, depth 33cm approxCondition:: In good condition overall with marks, scratches and wear commensurate with age and use. One minor moulding loss to left door. The right return moulding to the base looks later, the side moulding above is later. On the other side the lower section of the base, below the moulding is later. The right to left frieze section is a little uneven to its right side, most likely due to shrinkage to the wood.It is possible the cabinet may have been an architectural fitment.COLLECTION NOTICE.  Lot 6  Must  be collected from the Auction venue by 1pm Friday 28th.  Please arrange transport before this deadline.   We are unable to transport this lot into our storage facility after the auction.

RMS Olympic Interest. A mahogany glazed wall cabinet c.1910projecting moulded cornice over a pair of glazed doors enclosing a single shelf, inscribed in pencil verso 'S.S Olympic Jarrow 19th October 1935'height 33.5cm., width 57cm., depth 19.5cm.Condition:Marks wear and scratches to top. Four drill holes to back RMS Olympic was the near identical White Star Line sister ship of RMS Titanic.
