An 18th Century Boulle work tabletop cabinet, the caddy top with secret rising lid over a central door within a bank of seven drawers, each with figural or panelled decoration in the Classical style, 73.5 cm wide x 36 cm deep x 53.5 cm high, together with a letter from Henry Street to Francis Gibson Esq (Banker and Businessman 1805-1858), dated London 3/10/35 (18) relating to the delivery of the piece and its purported provenance as having been once the property of Marie Louise (Josephine), the wife of Emperor Napoleon as follows: "Sir, On receipt of your letter I sent my brother to the Vine Bishopsgate Street to know the cause of the delay in sending the cabinet to you and he received the answer that it was forwarded by Byatts Waggon and would be received as last night it was sent to the Vine Inn on Saturday last with strict instructions to the bookkeeper to forward it by the earliest conveyance therefore the fault lies with him. I do assure you Sir that I am very sorry that the unnecessary delay should have happened and hope it will arrive quite safe. I was informed originally it came from the Chateau Malmaison and was formally the property of Marie Louise the wife of NapoleonI am SirYours most respectfullyHenry StreetBrewer Street, Golden Squareto the front "Francis Gibson Esq, Saffron Walden, Essex"and with handwritten paper label inscribed "Buhl Cabinet (Malmaison)" CONDITION REPORTS Various areas of boulle work are missing / risen. Some have been re-attached in various places. Areas of patching. On the central door, the brass work has some kind of corrosion present - there are areas of some other panels too but more obvious here. The lock on the middle drawer on the left hand side is not working properly and therefore permanently open. Internal hinges on the lid appear to be replacements. There are knocks, stains, some areas of veneer lifting, cracks, etc to the exterior of the lid. Areas of mould / mildew like substance to the interior of the top cupboard and staining on the wood. Signs of old worm especially to the front corners. The two top drawers - the central panels appear to have been replacements and possibly not tortoiseshell though they do have the appearance of tortoiseshell. General wear and tear conducive with age and use. See images for more detail.

A 20th Century green lacquered and chinoiserie decorated cocktail cabinet in the Georgian style, the upper section with two cupboard doors enclosing a shelf and two drawers over a slide and two short over three long drawers raised on bracket feet, 93 cm wide x 43.5 cm deep x 161 cm high CONDITION REPORTS A modern piece missing the brass fastening to the front. Damage to the decoration and lacquer throughout espeically on the top curls. Sections of moulding missing on the back right-hand side. Knocks and bumps throughout. No mirror. Shelves to the interior of the cupboard. One handle is off but present to the drawers. Heavy wear and tear with age and use. See images for more details
