A 19th century mahogany arm chair by Holland & Sons, with curved and panelled cresting rail, moulded arms with foliate patterned, blue upholstery seat and back, on gadrooned and turned front legs with brass castors, stamped to underside and 'GVR' surmounted by a crown, 'OSBORNE', 'W.Pyatt' and '23.6.08' Started in 1803 by William Holland, Holland and sons were extremely good cabinet makers and specialised in fine quality furniture. It is possible that this chair was commissioned for Osborne House, Isle of Wight, the summer residence and rural retreat of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Holland & Sons were granted the Royal Warrant to supply furniture to Osborne House, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral and Marlborough House.
