A Large Victorian Oak Collectors Cabinet,English, c.1880, with engraved brass plaque for 'ELKINGTON MASON & COMPANY MANUFACTURING SILVERSMITHS BIRM', a large 6 drawer cutlery canteen with drawers re-lined and made into a collectors cabinet, with plinth top paneled doors opening to reveal 6 drawers each with flush campaign-style brass handles, with large campaign-style handles to the sides, on plinth base with square feet, doors with catches and key, 55cm wide 51cm tall 47cm deep Footnote: Elkington & Co. are one of the most important names in English silver and certainly the most important in silver plate. They began life in Birmingham as a company of silversmiths in 1836, and experimented with improving gilding techniques. By 1838 they had discovered and patented a new way to electroplate one metal onto the surface of another. By 1840 production was already underway with silver electroplated wares. The company received financial backing from Josiah Mason in 1842 (renaming the firm Elkington, Mason & Co between 1842 and 1861) and was extremely successful. It introduced electrotyping as a new method of production for silver-plated items. Elkington & Co exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 with enormous success

A George I figured walnut and feather banded cabinet, circa 1725, now on an associated walnut stand, probably circa 1725 and later, 194cm high, 112cm wide, 39cm deep overallCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and useAs catalogued this appears to incorporate circa 1725 and later elements. The base is entirely associated also and is thus a marriage. The metalware appears to have been applied later, probably at time of marriage to unite the items. The glass plates are smoked and bloomed and are not highly reflective.There are various chips, losses, and replacements to veneers and mouldings. The bun feet with signs of wear.The doors to the upper section were locked shut at time of original report, the lock appears to have been opened now (there is no key so Dreweatts are not sure how) and the interior is visable. Please see additional images for details. This may well have been forced as there is some cutting to the wood at the keeper of the door. The interior with three shelves, there are various marks and stains to the interior - it may well benefit from a clean. A Regency mahogany side cabinet, circa 1815, the central pair of pleated silk doors opening to a shelved interior, flanked by a doors opening to a shelf and a fitted drawer to one side, and a door opening to three sliding trays to the other, 92cm high, 168cm wide, 48cm deep Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use,This did not originally have any handles, these were conceived as blind frieze drawers - the handles are therefore later additions and not how this piece was conceived, they are however stylistically correct for the piece. The silk pleating is probably more recent, this almost certainly had it originally this was probably restored when the handles were fitted, the piece also has a polished appearance suggesting a restorer has had this previously. The drawer linings with stains and marks, the cellaret drawer previously divided, these divisions have been cut back, there are also losses to the lining. This has all three slides. The inner workings have been inspected but Dreweatts have not and cannot test the action and workings and therefore cannot make any guarantees or comments as to playability or the amount of restoration work likely required to make it work. There is money stuck in the machine workings that is presumed would need to be removed. The money-in slot appears to have been taped over previously. There is a cache of money in the lenticule but not clear way of retrieving this to play or test. The arm to the side does rotate a short way but does not have a spring return to the original position. There are two large loose springs to the money drawer.The case with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, the chrome uneven to the touch, there are also areas of pitting and loss to the surface, . The vinyl covering is scratched, with some tears and burns. A notable tear to the grill cloth of the head underneath the presence knob. No signs of major restoration - carries the dignity of age and use. It works and has great tone but it would benefit from a service.
