A Portuguese or Spanish, 17th century table top cabinet, the exterior veneered on four sides with ebony cross banding, shaped spandrels and arched devices, the front with a pair of doors opening onto a traditional arrangement of drawers and dummy drawers, these with applied ebony mouldings. The drawer at the centre has applied moulding simulating a doorway, at the centre, a steel mask escutcheon, at the base of this drawer, a secret compartment. Width 40.5cm. The internal drawers have replaced handles but five of the original steel drop handles survive. (See illustration)
