A Rare Aesthetic Movement Highly Carved Cabinet Cupboard In Oak. The top has three leaded top doors with carved geometric panels below, crisply carved. The top has three panels carved with a Japanese style decoration. The cupboards are supported by 'L' shaped iron hinges of simple form. The base has three large drawers with unusual steel ring pull handles. The sides are finely carved to match the front of the cupboard. Terminates on a square reeded type leg. Carved & signed to the sides, Makers name 'J.C.Sowerby' Dated 1886. Similar to pieces sold by Libertys Of London in the late 19th Century. 70'' in height, 18'' in depth & 79.5'' in width.
Meissen Large Cabinet Cup and Saucer, the cup showing a hand painted, polychrome scene of Wesenstein, nestling in a wooden valley against a background of rolling hills, set within a gilt rococo frame, opposing the white and gilt bifurcated handle terminating with leaves; the oversized cup, slightly waisted, flaring to a shaped rim, is a rich royal blue with a compliment of gilt swirling foliage; a band of gilt decoration and a similar roundel to the base enhance the white interior, these two motifs re-appear to the rim and centre of the generous saucer, on the upper surface of royal blue; three shaped and gilt framed cartouches with hand painted Deutsche Blumen complete this surface, with a delicately traced gilt band finishing the white underside; both pieces bearing Meissen underglaze blue crossed swords marks, plus the title 'Wesenstein' to the cup; c1900; 3+ inches high x 4.5 in diameter, saucer 6.75 inches in diameter x 1.75 high
