A fine, early vintage signed sepia cabinet photograph by both Prince Edward and Prince Albert individually, the image depicting the two young Princes standing in full length poses together in a hallway, each wearing identical Highland dress featuring a kilt and sporran. Photograph by F. Ralph of Dersingham, Norfolk (indicating that the image was most likely captured at Sandringham house on the Royal estate in Norfolk) and bearing his imprint to the lower mount. Signed ('Edward') by the future King Edward VIII and signed ('Albert') by the future King George VI, both in dark, bold fountain pen inks to a light area at the base of the image, and dated 1904 (most likely in Prince Edward's hand). Rare in this form. Some staining to the extreme lower edge of the photographer's mount and some very light, minor overall age wear, about VG
EDEN ANTHONY: (1897-1977) British Prime Minister 1955-57. T.L.S., Anthony Eden, one page, small 4to, Newport, Rhode Island, 5th July 1953, to Mrs. A[nnie] Fawcett. Eden thanks his correspondent for their letter and good wishes and comments 'I was deeply touched by your thought of me at this time. I was so very sorry to hear that you too had been in hospital and hope that you will soon be feeling much better'. Accompanied by the original envelope. Together with Clarissa Eden (1920- ) Wife of Anthony Eden. T.L.S., Clarissa Eden, one page, 8vo, Newport, Rhode Island, 9th July 1953, to Mrs [Annie] Fawcett, thanking her correspondent, on behalf of her husband, for their kind letter and good wishes. Also including Ernest Bevin (1881-1951) British Statesman, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs 1945-51. Vintage signed cabinet photograph, an early image of Bevin in a head and shoulders pose. CASTRO FIDEL: (1926- ) Cuban Prime Minister 1959-76 and President 1976- 2008. D.S., Fidel Castro Ruz, one page, folio, Havana, 29th July 1959. The typed document, in Spanish, is issued in the name of Osvaldo Dorticos Torrado, President of the Republic of Cuba, and relates to a new law sanctioned by the President and the Cabinet following a report by the Minister of Communications regarding shipping lanes and resolving that extra funds will be granted to the special budget of the Ministry of Communications for the funding of transport by both sea and air routes. Signed by Castro at the conclusion in his capacity as Prime Minister and countersigned by Osvaldo Dorticos Torrado and Rufo Lopez-Fresquet, Minister of Hacienda. With a blind embossed blue paper seal and two ribbons affixed. Three file holes and a series of smaller file holes to the left edge, not affecting the text or signature, and with some very light age wear, about VG Osvaldo Dorticos Torrado (1919-1983) President of Cuba 1959-76. Rufo Lopez-Fresquet (1911- ) Cuban Minister of Hacienda, Castro's first Minister of the Treasury. Lopez-Fresquet was one of the few members of Castro's ministry to survive the tumultuous times following the revolution and Castro's placing in power. However, he was later identified as a secret source of anti-Castro information for the Americans
BOTHA LOUIS: (1862-1919) Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa 1910-19. T.L.S., Louis Botha, one page, 4to (small area of paper loss to the lower edge), Capetown, 7th December 1910, to the Honourable J. W. Sauer, on the blind embossed stationery of the Prime Minister's office. Botha refers to a letter and other documents which he has received from Colonel Greene, remarking 'The contents thereof considerably surprised me' and continuing 'The state of affairs in regard to the Administration of the Railways as it is stated to be in this correspondence does not agree with what I understood from you from time to time in Cabinet'.
