* Schutzbund - Austria, 1934 A group of twenty-eight b & w photo postcards, mostly c. the February Revolution, 1934, showing fighting, destruction, damaged buildings, etc., some with captions identified in the negative, several with pen or pencil English annotations to versos, plus a group of ten related b & w snapshots, one identified on verso as Gammel - member of Schutzbund & social democrat party, with his wife, killed in action, Feb., 1934, approx. 6 x 9 cm., plus five Soviet press photos of a slightly later date on February 12th 1934 the Austrian fascist regime provoked a civil war by ordering search warrants for the headquarters of the socialist party. At that time the socialist party structures were weak and the uprising of its supporters including the Schutzbund were quickly defeated. The Dollfuss cabinet approved a new constitution which remained in force until Austria became part of the Third Reich in 1938 These images here may well include some unpublished. -43
