An Edwardian mahogany bowfronted display cabinet with inlaid foliate detail, the glazed door featuring three green stained panels and enclosing two shelves raised on outspread square section legs, approx 146 x 61cm. Additional InformationA reasonably sturdy example. Pediment sits quite loosely. General wear and scratching to top. No key present. General wear, scratches and losses to veneers throughout, particularly to the legs and lower areas.
An early/mid 20th century demi-lune side cabinet profusely hand-gilded and lacquered with chinoiseries; the top with a gilded running guilloche and with two outset columns headed with rams' masks over harebells, central convex drawer above a conforming lower cupboard door, the whole gilded and decorated with figures, birds and buildings etc., raised on four short gilded tapering fluted legs terminating in ebonised and gilded spade feet, 128cm wide CONDITION REPORT: The piece appears in generally overall good original condition although looking at the top from an angle with a light the lacquer is lightly scratched in places and there are some indentations where items have been placed upon the top over the years. In our view this does not particularly detract from the look of the piece and although scratches, scuffs and one or two minor “holes” the size of a match head are visible the eye is not immediately drawn to them. Some rubbing of gilding is noticeable under scrutiny, mostly to extremities to include one of the ram's head noses, some running guilloche style gilded moulding around the top and naturally enough scuffing and paint away etc., to the tapering square block feet. The door does not appear to be warped although there is some scuffing to the left hand side of the vertical where the escutcheon is visible, presumable where the lock has not been retracted fully and has caused minor damage. In our view this could be rectified fairly easily. No breakages, splits, cracks or major problems are noted and the auctioneer asks that prospective bidders (of which there are a few) refer to the images published to include all angles with front, top, underside, interior and drawer close ups etc. The panels to the left and right of the central panel appear in very generally very good overall decorative order and it is a nice effect that the gilding has dulled down in most places. The Demi Lune commode has a black painted panelled back affixed with largish screws to the side verticals which have evidently been in place for a good period of years. Overall good general original condition commensurate with age. Dimensions: 126cm wide x 56.5cm deep x 94cm high. We can't see any plywood used in the piece.
THESE CABINETS HAVE BEEN ADAPTED FROM ANOTHER PIECE OF FURNITURE AND IN THE AUCTIONEER'S VIEW, SOMETIME IN THE LATE 20TH CENTURY An opposing pair of 19th century figured walnut bow-fronted side cabinets; the doors opening to reveal slides, 40cm wide CONDITION REPORT: We are now sure that these cabinets have been converted from one original piece of furniture and they were not made like this. When you turn the cabinets up on the underside there is a hole where a castor used to be and when the cabinet doors are opened it is apparent that the top bow fronted section has been applied to the rest of the piece quite recently, even though the walnut veneer on the top may have originally been produced some time in the early 20th Century. There are some minor scratches and scuffs etc., as you would expect and the polish has dried out and is now producing a horizontal line effect on the tops of the cabinets in the same way that you might see polish degrading on 1930's walnut dressing table suites. Height 62cm x Depth 42.5cm at the deepest point on the top. These are now sold as seen as a pair of bow fronted walnut cabinets and even though the “bones” are 19th Century the cabinets are not “original)
A very fine pair of Royal Worcester porcelain cabinet plates; both superbly gilded against a puce ground and with central floral spray in enamels and individually signed by the artist 'Freeman', printed marks to the underside, 27cm diameter CONDITION REPORT: The plate with the original lot number sticker appears a little dirty and stained underneath but this seems to rub off easily. Very good quality noted, the gilding appears very nice as does the signed vignette of floral spray. No cracks, chips of restoration noted. The other plate with the part lot sticker again is a little stained, dark and dark splashes to the underside which appear to wipe off easily. Also the gilding looks very good and bright and the floral vignette is decorated in enamels and signed. No chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration noted.
Three cabinet plates, one Royal Worcester decorated with a still life of peaches and grapes etc., (signed), 27cm diameter, one further similar plate decorated with apples and black grapes (also signed) and an unmarked plate with cobalt blue border surrounding peaches, strawberries etc. (signed), (3) CONDITION REPORT: First plate with cobalt blue border and "serrated" edge has a few minor scratches to the cobalt blue border, the interior looks reasonable although there is an approx. 1cm scratch below the single right hand strawberry, some further minor scratching to cobalt blue border. The underside looks reasonable with no discernible cracks, chips, hairlines or restoration. Signed with the name Budd. The plate marked with the Royal Worcester mark to reverse and showing three peaches with greengages or gooseberries appears in good general overall order with the foot rim slightly darker through dirt etc., signed C. Lowe? The last similar plate (no mark to reverse) also appears in good general original condition. There is a small scratch to the left hand side beginning where it has been signed C.A. James? Other smallish scratches visible at close quarters to the paint work although the reverse looks quite good.
A Claremont Fine China cabinet plate decorated with Highland cattle signed 'R. Poole' (modern) together with one other similar sized cabinet plate, English fine bone china and also hand-decorated with pheasants in snowy surroundings, signed R. Budd, the latter plate 27cm in diameter (2) CONDITION REPORT: The plate with the Highland cattle appears to be in very good original condition with no real condition issues noted. The companion plate of pheasants has one or two minor scratch issues but nothing major. There is a very thin 1cm scratch emanating vertically emanating from the right hand side of the main pheasant head. Very nice paint work noted and quality of decoration. No chips, cracks or restoration noted. In good general order the pair.

Many are unidentified family portraits but with some good topographical and thematic. With brass bands, horses, topographical, canals, rivers and harbours etc. Usually with studio identification on the cards, many from the Yorkshire area. Also some smaller Cartes de Visite , popular from 1860 to 1900. These include a small portrait of Cetawayo, Zulu King.
