A Victorian faded mahogany side cabinet by Holland & Sons, with a pair of panelled doors with Horne Patent brass hinges enclosing an adjustable shelf, the top of the right door stamped `HOLLAND & SONS` on a plinth base, the reverse inscribed in chalk `Fonthill`, 35.25in (89.5cm) h, 48in (122cm) w, 16.25in (41.3cm) d. Provenance: The estate of Niel Rimington of Fonthill Old Abbey Estate.
A George IV rosewood side cabinet, with nulled mouldings, 34in (86.5cm) h, 42.5in (107.5cm) w, 12.25in (31cm) d, together with an early 19th century mahogany bookcase, the detachable cornice above a pair of astragal glazed doors enclosing three adjustable shelves and three fitted drawers, 51in (129cm) h, 43in (108.8cm) w, 13.5in (34.2cm) d. A modern mahogany circular concentric extending dining table attributed to Arthur Brett, the moulded edge top with six additional leaves, the open base on turned columns and downswept supports to brass lions paw sabots and castors, the leaves are housed in a baize lined cabinet, 29.25in (74.3cm) h, 60.25in (153cm) dia., 84.5in (214.5cm) dia. extended.
A set of six Regency painted beechwood open armchairs by John Gee, each with a twin hour glass shape and ball back, to downswept and turned arms, with later silk squab cushions to a bell shape cane seat, the floral decorated front rail above turned tapering legs, the seat rails stamped, `J within a G,` with workmen`s mark `I W`. (6) One back rail replaced, old losses and wear. John Gee (fl. 1779-c.1824) chairmaker and turner. In 1779 Gee replaced Thomas Ayliffe as partner to Benjamin Crompton who had been Turner in Ordinairy to George III since 1762. From 1799 Gee is listed in London directories as `Chair-maker, 49 Wardour Street, Soho` and in 1803 he is called `Chair-maker & Turner to His Majesty.` Gee is also included in the list of master cabinet makers attached to Sheraton`s Cabinet Dictionary in 1803. The last directory listing for Gee is 1823-24.
A Napoleon III ebonised, boulle marquetry and ormolu mounted side cabinet by Pretot, Paris, the detachable top inlaid brass stringing, above a stiff leaf frieze with a glazed door enclosing three shelves flanked by putto and foliage mounts, the sides with Hercules mask mounts, the top of the carcass stamped `PRETOT 2`, 47.25in (120cm) h, 32in (81cm) h, 15.25in (38.7cm) d. Hippolyte-Edme Pretot (1812-1855) is recorded at 16, rue de l`Abbaye in 1836 and from 1846 rue du Harlay. He exhibited at the 1849 Exposition National in Paris and London in 1852.
A Victorian walnut teapoy by T.H. Filmer, the burr veneered circular moulded edge hinged top to an interior with two pull-out lidded canisters and apertures for two mixing bowls, the underside with a gilt brass plaque inscribed `FROM T.H. FILMER`S CABINET UPHOLSTERY, BEDDING & CARPET MANUFACTORY, 28, 32, & 34, BERNERS ST, OXFORD ST, LONDON. W.`, on a fluted stem and leaf carved tripod supports, 29in (73.4cm) h, 17in (43cm) w.
A George II mahogany tea chest, of canted rectangular bombe form, the moulded edge hinged cover with a brass handle revealing three compartments, the front with an engraved brass escutcheon of a pair of fronded bird heads flanking a cartouche with a concealed flap, released by a button to the underside, the base moulding with a concealed drawer on the right side, raised on bracket feet, 6in (15.2cm) h, 12in (30.5cm) w. Exhibited: An Invitation to Tea, Witney Antiques, Witney, Oxfordshire, 1991. Literature: Gilbert, C. & Murdoch, T. John Channon and brass-inlaid furniture 1730-1760, 1993. A Landall & Gordon trade card of circa 1745 states `Joyners, Cabinet & Chair Makers At ye Griffin & Chair in Little Argyle Street by Swallow Street...Makers...all sort of Cabinet Work.` and depicting a chair, a griffin and a tea chest. The escutcheon being similar to the chest above. Other examples of this escutcheon with the sprung flap have been found on bureau`s and dressing boxes.
In the manner of Thomas Sheraton, a Regency strung mahogany lady’s work table, the galleried top with a hinged front over a navette-shaped stretcher and shaped end supports, 57cm wide 38.5cm deep 72cm high This example closely corresponds to an engraving for A ‘Lady’s Work Table’ published in Thomas Sheraton’s ‘Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Drawing Book’, 1793, pl 54.

NOSOTTI, CARVER & GILDER, UPHOLSTERER & CABINET MAKER 398 & 399 OXFORD ST.`, two paper labels with inventory numbers `5925`, 22.75 x 38.75in (58 x 98.5cm). Provenance: The estate of Niel Rimington of Fonthill Old Abbey Estate.

A VERNIS MARTIN VITRINE CABINET IN LOUIS XVI STYLE, the top with pierced gilt-metal gallery above a case glazed on three sides and lined in crimson silk enclosed by a single door painted with a courting couple in 18th century costume, the sides with landscape panels, raised on short cabriole legs and applied throughout with gilt-metal mounts, probably early 20th century. 1.56m by 0.62m by 0.35m
