An 20th century Archer and Sons of Liverpool brass and tin plate magic lantern, 39 cm long, contained in ebonised metal case. CONDITION REPORT: The brasswork to this lantern is in good condition. The focus mechanism runs smoothly. The metal cabinet has some scuffs and dents but is in generally good condition. The lens appears clean. The lantern appears to be complete as far as we can tell. The lantern has been electrified and there is a hole in the back plate, presumably to house the light fitting.
A Victorian games compendium by F.H. Ayres Ltd London, with "The Guide to the Compendium of Games", including chess, draughts, backgammon, dominoes, Halma, The Steeplechase etc. Case dimensions 34 cm x 22 cm x 18 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet whilst structurally sound is well used and there are numerous ring marks, scuffs and scratches to the outer surfaces. The hinges are original and in good order. The lock and lock plate are present but we do not have a key. The interior of the cabinet is dirty and dusty with numerous small surface marks and scratches. One black pawn has a loss to the top thin turning, all other pieces are in good condition with only minor blemishes. One white bishop and the white queen have knot marks within the turning. The cribbage board has numerous surface scratches. The bezique markers instructions and cards are all a little worn around the extremities. There are 26 dominoes. There are 15 white draughts and 13 black. The horses are all missing paint. One jockey head is missing. One white horse has the front section of both front legs missing and the jockey head. One black horse has part of a rear leg missing. They are all a little bent. The fence is damaged and in two sections with losses. The folding games board has sellotaped repairs and scuffs and nibbles to the extremities. The instruction booklet is also dog eared, scuffed and worn.
An oak two tier circular table, bearing label Smith & Son Cabinet Makers Dundee. Diameter 44 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table is structurally sound with no significantly loose joints. The top has a very slight warp, but would not affect the use. There is a stress fracture to the top which has been glued. This is +/- 7 cm in length. All legs are in good order with no issues other than minor scratches and scuffs as one would expect. The lower shelf is in good order. The table will date from circa 1900. The table is probably a little on the large side to post.
A Victorian rosewood exhibition quality sideboard with Wylie and Lochead plaque, fine quality, the top half with mirror and alcoves, the base fitted with a series of cupboards, drawer and open shelves. Height 238 cm, width 153 cm, depth 49 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet splits into two sections. The top lifts off below the waist moulding just beneath the egg and dart carving. This would make the height of the upper section 150.5 cm. The width is 153 cm and the maximum depth +/- 49 cm. The base height is therefore +/- 89 cm and the width at the lower shelf 151 cm. The depth of the base at the lower shelf is +/- 43 cm.
A Victorian mahogany bedside cabinet, with single panelled door and raised on a plinth. Height 79 cm, width 40 cm, depth 38 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in good order. The top is flat with no splits and only minor blemishes. The sides are in good order, being well figured and again no splits. The door is in very good condition. The plinth base is in good order all round. The backboards are original. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A Victorian mahogany narrow bedside cabinet, with rounded corners panelled door and plinth base. Height 73 cm, width 33.5 cm, depth 36.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally sound. The top Is in generally good order with only minor surface blemishes. The sides of the cabinet are not split. The door is in good order and closes as it should. The plinth base has some minor lower edge veneer nibbles but no serious issues. The backboards are original. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A 19th century Dutch marquetry tall chest of drawers, six drawers with brass drop handles with circular backplates and raised on stile feet. Height 156 cm, width 103 cm, depth 47.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The chest of drawers is in generally good condition. It is structurally sound. It is a good uniform colour. There are some minor veneer nibbles and small old repairs to the marquetry but no serious condition issues. The handles and lock escutcheons appear to be original. There are no extra handle holes. The sides of the cabinet have typical veneer stress fractures but there is no movement and again no significant losses. The backboards are original. The feet are all original and structurally sound. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
A 19th century Chinese hardwood cabinet in two sections, with foliate and scroll carved cornice above a series of shelves and pair of panelled cupboard doors beneath with brass drop handles and all raised on stile feet. Height 211 cm, width 98 cm, depth 37.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally very sound. It is in generally extremely good condition. Some of the corner spandrels have minor nibbles and are a little loose, but there are no losses of any note that we can see. The side panels are all in good condition. There are no splits to the base. The doors are not warped but do not quite meet in the middle and at the top edge. There is some minor water splash damage to the right hand door. The base is in good order. The overall condition is very good.
A 19th century Derby cabinet cup and saucer, and another decorated with floral swags. CONDITION REPORT: The taller cup and saucer are both in good order with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. The saucer has some discolouration the glaze within the deeper parts of the moulded areas. This should be visible in the image. There is also some rubbing to the gilding around the facets of the cup. The pink banded cup and saucer are also both in very good order with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. There is rubbing to the gilding, more so on the saucer and slight wear to the glaze around the edge of the saucer recess. There are no chips or hairline cracks to any of the pieces.
A collection of six 19th century hand painted cabinet plates, one bearing lozenge registration mark, each diameter 23.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: All plates are in generally good condition with no evidence of any damage, no repairs and no restoration. There are no chips and no hairline cracks. The plate with the blue and gilt border with apples to the centre has some rubbing to the centre pattern and small losses to the paintwork. The plate with the shaped outline and blue and gilt rim has some rubbing to the gilding and to the ribbed sections of the plate. All other plates in this lot have very minor rubbing to the gilding but overall there are no significant issues.
An early 19th century Pinxton porcelain circular cabinet plate, finely enamelled in colours with a vase of flowers to centre within gilded floral rim. 22 cm diameter (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The plate is in structurally good condition. We can see no evidence of any chips. There are no repairs and no restoration. There are no hairline cracks. The gilding is a little rubbed in places and there are some losses to the paintwork on the centre panel particularly top centre and bottom centre. The underside of the plate has numerous old labels and is a little dirty. There are nibbles to the glaze around the foot rim.
