A late 19th century German Arts & Crafts or Jugendstil oak Historismus cabinet with Trompe L'oeil marquetry,decorated in grained oak veneer with ebony stringing and a carved wooden female warrior figure in alcove, above a fall front with a zinc lined interior, width 3', height 5'10", depth 1'8".
A 19thC Chinese fan made up of carved tortoiseshell, Brussels lace and bone with a letter about the making of the fan which reads:Lady Twiss sent this Brussels lace for a fan to the Walkers in return for being allowed to sell a foreign cabinet belonging to B S Walker, standing in 14 ?? Terrace, clearing room for the sick and poor during the Franco German war (1870-71). J E Walker sent to China to have a tortoiseshell frame made for it, then on J E Walker's death the fan and lace were given to Clara Bagnold and she had it made up as it is.Lady Twiss is best known for her involvement in a libel scandal in 1872.
