He spent more than 20 years working for Sports Illustrated, at one time the world`s largest sports magazine, covering to events such as Superbowl, the "Rumble in the Jungle" and the World Cup. In between these, he undertook adventurous and groundbreaking fishing expeditions for the magazine, many of which are documented in his highly rated books Castaway and I Know a Good Place. He was friends with many of fishing`s greatest names, from Lee Wulff to Bernard Venables, and he was a pioneer of Irish sea fishing, particularly bass fishing from the west coast. His articles and books played a key role in popularising the country`s sport potential. Clive incurred a serious leg injury while fishing off Malaysia a few years ago, and he has now moved into sheltered accommodation, admitting: "I have to face it that I`m never going to go wading out into the surf or splashing waist-deep in salmon rivers again."
