Rev: with same circular countermark and also initials AT. 25.68 grams. The countermarks are similar to verification stamps seen on official trade weights of the period but are from different dies. Unofficial weights were in common use and the cartwheel penny was struck at one ounce weight so it is likely that this was used as a weight.[No Reserve]Coin poor, countermarks very fine. Joseph Lancaster (1778-1838) was the founder of the Lancasterian system of education. He opened a school at Borough Road, south London, in 1798 and divided it into small classes, each under a monitor; a group of these classes was supervised by a head monitor. In this way, and by using mechanical methods of learning, he could accommodate 1,000 boys. George III promised him his support in 1805. The King’s patronage and the consequent support given to Lancaster by his sons, the Prince Regent and the Dukes of Sussex and Kent, transformed the society into one of the nation’s most useful institutions. Before the government took an interest in education, it provided rudimentary schooling for hundreds of thousands of poor children.Very fine. Rare.Starting Price: £70

Mills, depicting Sir Henry Charles Engelfield (1752-1822), 7th Baronet Engelfield. Obv: profile bust left. Rev: HCE monogram with AYNB (for 1782) and AWIZ (for 1819) lettering in Greek characters; held in a gold ring surround and housed in original hinged leather-covered round case. BHM 1, 978 (AE gilt, Rare); D. 66/2; EPM 1891/77. 8.76 grams, 19.76mm diameter, including outer ring,. Sir Henry Charles Englefield devoted his entire life to study. In 1778 at the early age of 26 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, and in the following year Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. For many years he was vice-president of the latter. Owing to his being a Catholic, objection was taken to his re-election; another factor was his opposition to the 1797 election to the Society of the architect James Wyatt. He was replaced by the Earl of Aberdeen. Under his direction the society produced between 1797 and 1813 the series of engravings of English cathedrals, to which series he contributed the dissertations on Durham, Gloucester, and Exeter.Extremely fine, the surround ring slightly damaged and possibly once glazed. Carcharodontosaurus Saharicus Carnivorous Dinosaur ToothCretaceous period, 100-93 million years BP A tooth from the large carnivorous dinosaur Carcharodontosaurus Saharicus with good edge serrations; there is some evidence of pre-fossilization consumption of enamel by bacteria or worms on one side; with display stand and a photocopy of the original French monograph plate. Carcharodontosaurus was a gigantic carnivorous carcharodontosaurid dinosaur that lived around 100 to 93 million years ago, during the late Albian to early Cenomanian stages of the mid-Cretaceous Period. It was discovered to be the second largest predatory dinosaur, larger than Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus, but not as large as Spinosaurus. The Carcharodontosaurus is named after the shark genus Carcharodon (from the Greek karcharo meaning jagged or sharp), odonto meaning teeth and sauros, meaning lizard: jagged-toothed lizard or sharp-toothed lizard.Very fine condition. Intergrown Pair of Cubic Platinum CrystalsRare natural platinum crystals, a pair of intergrown cubes of excellent form. 2.33 grams, 9 mm. (1/2"). Ex Douglas Rose collection; ex Crystal Classics (with label). Its name is derived from the Spanish term platina, which is literally translated into little silver. It is a dense, malleable, ductile, gray-white transition metal and is one of the rarest elements in the Earth`s crust with an average abundance of approximately 5 ?g/kg. It is the least reactive metal and occurs in some nickel and copper ores along with some native deposits, mostly in South Africa, which accounts for 80% of the world production.Very fine condition. Crystals of the Silver Mineral Pyrargyrite on MatrixA group of well-formed and lustrous crystals of the silver-antimony sulfide mineral pyrargyrite, on matrix. 47 grams, 40 mm. (1 3/4"). Ex Douglas Rose collection; ex Christopher Cavey (with label); from San Cristoba, Morrochocha, Peru. Pyrargyrite is a sulphosalt mineral consisting of silver sulphantimonide, Ag3SbS3 and known also as dark red silver ore or ruby silver (German, Rotgiiltigerz). It is an important source of the metal and is closely allied to the corresponding sulpharsenide known as proustite or light red silver ore. Ruby silver was mentioned by Georg Agricola in 1546, but the two varieties so closely resemble one another that they were not completely distinguished until chemical analyses were made.[No Reserve]Very fine condition. The rarely found red beryl (also known as red emerald or scarlet emerald) is a beryllium aluminium cyclosilicate with the chemical formula Be3Al2(SiO3). It was first described in 1904 for an occurrence, with its type locality, at Maynard`s Claim (Pismire Knolls), Thomas Range, Juab County, Utah. A small Derby campana vase and cover with a rare mark, 1916, one side painted with fruit, the other with flowers, the circular base with colourful moths and insects, red mark for Stevenson & Hancock and painted zeppelin mark, 13.5cm. (2) The city of Derby was bombed by a zeppelin on 31st January 1916. One kiln at the factory had reached a crucial stage in the firing process when the air raid siren sounded. The kiln fire had to be extinguished and it was not until after the raid that it was found the firing had still been successful. The mark of a zeppelin was added to everything that came out of that one kiln to commemorate the event.

The pattern is a copy of a Chinese export porcelain pattern, drawn by Lieutenant Piercy Brett and used on a service for Commodore George Anson in 1743.

A rare Jacobite type glass, mid 18th century, engraved with the motto `Turno Tempus Erit` above a rose spray, six-sided star and the word `Fiat`, raised on a double-knopped airtwist stem, 15.5cm. The phrase Turno Tempus Erit is probably borrowed from Virgil, and roughly translates to mean `The time will come`; perhaps an insinuation that the Hanoverian victory at the Battle of Culloden could be short-lived.

A rare Pratt ware watch stand, c.1800, modelled as a longcase clock flanked by a boy and girl, the case moulded and enamelled in typical palette with Classical scenes, a small amount of good restoration, 26.8cm. Lot 180

A rare pearlware lustre model of Nero, c.1825, the gentle giant standing four square on a faux marble base, decorated in a rich copper lustre, good restoration, 25cm. The famed Nero belonged to promoter George Wombwell, who staged a lion-baiting in 1825 alongside some dog dealers in Warwick. Despite being ferociously set upon by three English bulldogs, Nero surprisingly did not attempt to retaliate and it was reported in the Morning Herald at the time that "from the beginning of the contest to the end, the lion was merely a sufferer; he never struck a blow in anger."
