Bill Cody autograph and memorabilia collection relating to him being robbed. Has two original letters. The first from Besse Isbill Asking for the Photograph to assist the police. The news cutting regarding the court case itself, where William Puzey was found guilty. Finally the letter to or vendors grandfather Walter Noel Greenwell signed of course by Buffalo Bill Cody. Plus supporting news cuttings, the photograph taken by my grandfather of Buffalo Bill Cody, Besse Isbill and the thief William Puzey. The Robbery of the Famous Buffalo Bill Cody Like so many children I grew up with great stories from my father who made sure I knew about our families long history. One such story excited me more than any. It was the story of how my grandfather met Buffalo Bill Cody whilst he was on tour with the extraordinary Wild West Show when it was in England. My grandfather, Walter Noel Greenwell had the great fortune to meet him and was granted the rare opportunity to photograph the man whose name has been immortalised in western history. As it happens Buffalo Bill Cody was to soon be robbed by his valet. My grandfather was soon called upon to help by Besse Isbill, an associate of Buffalo Bill. Noel then produced a photograph of the thief in the company of Besse and Bill Cody. The thief was soon captured, taken to court and found guilty. What began as a chance meeting became a friendship between this celebrated cowboy and a young English boy, my grandfather. Items that support this unusual story: The original photograph used to capture the thief. The handwritten letter to Walter Noel Greenwell from Besse Isbill asking for help with the photograph. A handwritten letter to Walter Noel Greenwell signed by the great Buffalo Bill himself, thanking my grandfather and signing off as your friend. Also, an original cutting from the Newspaper the report of the robbery. and describing the contents. There were gifts of jewellery from King Edward and The Grand Duke of Alexis of Russia as well as other pieces of valuable jewellery and gold. A second newspaper cutting tells of the court case, describes in more detail the fascinating collection of articles that were stolen and the surprising outcome of the case. These items have been in our family for over a hundred years and I hope will give others great pleasure as it has my father, John Maddison Greenwell and myself. Written by Peter John Maddison Greenwell (Grandson). Good condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide. UK postage from £4.99, EU from £6.99, Rest of World from £8.99
Beryl Cook (1926-2008) a rare double sided painting, 'French Tango' and 'The Expedition' oil on board, framed, 113.50cm x 88.50cm. Signed on one side."It’s not just the faces, but the whole of Beryl’s paintings that have a ‘look’. She fills them with bold, clear designs that immediately cheer you up. Her description of the tango bar is very telling. She was uncomfortable when the bar was empty, except for a frenzied couple dancing, but when many more customers arrived she was happier, stopped laughing nervously, and ‘everything settled down’... When you look closely at her compositions you can see that everything in them, every movement, mass, look and shape is balanced or echoed, one by another, until the whole picture seems to dance together." Julian Spalding in Beryl Cook Happy Days, 1995.

The cups with gilded double griffon handles flared rim and inverted foot, matching elements London decorated all round with band of garden flowers and roses to a chocolate and pink background, within a gilt dentil border8.8cms highprivate collection north west EnglandCondition report:Comments: a very fine and rare pair of cabinet cups, unrestored or damaged, wear especially to gilt rim of saucer, but overall very fineLater Note: since our initial cataloguing an opinion has been made attributing the cups to Spode. Our attribution to Nantgarw was based on the shapes of the cups, particularly the design / moulding of the handles. However, similar modelling was used by Spode and there are records of matching decoration for Spode (and possibly Coalport) tableware. We have therefore reduced the estimate to reflect this new information and the possible uncertainty of the manufacture. However, the quality of decoration and translucency of porcelain is in line with Nantgarw.
