JESUS, Frei Rafael de, O.S.B.- CASTRIOTO | LVSITANO | PARTE I. | ENTREPRESA, E RESTAVRAÇAÕ | de Pernambuco; & das Capitanias Confinantes. VARIOS, E BELLICOS SVCCESSOS CASTRIOTO | ENTRE PORTUGUEZES, E BELGAS. | ACONTECIDOS PELLO DISCURSO DE VINTE E QUATRO ANNOS, E |, tirados de noticias, relações, & memorias certas.- Lisboa: Na Impressaõ de Antonio Craesbeeck de Mello, 1679.- [18], 701, [47] p.: 1 portada grav.; 27 cm.- E. Original edition of a work based on the manuscript of «Historia da Guerra de Pernambuco e feitos memoraveis do Mestre de Campo João Fernandes Vieira», by Diogo Lopes Santiago, which was only published in 1875-1880. In fact, it is a compliment by Vieira, nicknamed Castrioto in allusion to the hero and Albanian king George Castrioto, a very popular figure in Portugal at the time. The author (1640-1693), a Benedictine monk, born in Guimarães, was the chief chronicler of the Kingdom, responsible for writing the seventh part of the «Monarquia Lusitana». The volume retains, at the beginning, the copperplate print title, with the portrait of the biographer, a little cropped and handled. Copy slightly cropped, with oval stamp (initials J.F.J.B.) on the type title page; occasional minor worm holes and light stains, especially on the margins. Restorations on the last four sheets of the Index. Binding from the 20th century, with leather spine. Inocêncio, VII, p. 48. Samodães, 1632. Borba de Moraes, p. 427 (rare). Auvermann, 1062.

FREIRE, Francisco de Brito.- NOVA | LUSITANIA, | HISTORIA DA | GUERRA | BRASILICA | A | PURISSIMA ALMA | E | SAVDOSA MEMORIA | SERENISSIMO PRINCIPE | DOM THEODOSIO | PRINCIPE DE PORTVGAL, | E | PRINCIPE DO BRASIL. | POR | FRANCISCO DE BRITO FREYRE. | DECADA PRIMEIRA.- Lisboa: Na Officina de Joam Galram, 1675.- [16 (i. é 14)], 460, [8], 64, [39, 1 br.] p.; 30 cm.- E., A working copy of the original edition of a work of capital importance to the history of Brazil, namely from 1630 to 1638. The author (ca. 1625-1692) was admiral of the Portuguese Fleet in Brazil and governor of Pernambuco (1661-1664) ), which allowed him to describe the events at first hand, having also had access to extensive documentation, both Portuguese and Dutch. The edition includes an engraved allegorical frontispiece, which is missing from the present copy. It also includes the «Viage [sic] da Armada da Companhia do Commercio, e Frotas do Estado do Brasil», with its own title page, dating from 1655 ([8], 64 p.). The last group of 39 numbered pages corresponds to the index. The copy also lacks the second preliminary sheet (beginning of the dedication) and has some serious defects, the main ones being the following: mirrored title page with browning and serious restoration, extending to the two following sheets; last two leaves with less profound restoration, especially on the outer margin. The rest of the sheets are cropped, but clean and without noticeable defects. Binding from the 19th century(?), full sheepskin. Inocêncio, III, p. 361. Borba de Moraes, p. 324/326 (rare). Samodães, 484. Auvermann, 1051. Arouca, F 187.

SAN ROMAN, Frei Antonio de, O.S.B.- HISTORIA GENERAL | DE LA YNDIA ORIENTAL | Los Descobrimientos, y Conquistas que han hecho las Armas | de Portugal, enel Brasil, y en Otras partes de Africa, y de la | Asia; y de la Dilatacion del Santo Euangelio por | aquellas grandes Prouincias, desde | sus principios hastª el Año de | 1557...- En Valladolid: por Luis Sanchez, Año. 1603.- [28], 804 (aliás 794), [18] p.: 1 portada grav.; 28 cm.- E., Important account of the discoveries and conquests of the Portuguese from 1416 to 1557, with extensive references to Brazil and the New World. The author (15th/16th century), a Spanish Benedictine, born in the city of Palencia, also published, on the same date and in the same city of Valladolid, a description of the «Jornada y muerte del Rey D. Sebastian». The copy retains the rare copperplate print architectural title (signed Juan Bapª Morales, fe), with an image of the author on the pediment, the title and coat of arms of the Constable of Castile, Juan Fernandez de Velasco, to whom the work is dedicated. Lightly cropped copy (title tangentially shaved on the outer margin), with some browning, but complete and solid, strictly corresponding to the description of Palau and the BNP online copy. Samodães (2982) gives us an extensive and detailed description, which also matches the present copy. According to Salvá (3396), copies with a frontispiece are rare. Ownership of the period, on the lower margin of the cover; extensive old notes on the back of the last page. Recent binding, full parchment, with the title handwritten on the spine, according to the taste of the time. Palau, 293611 (important work). Borba de Moraes, p. 765. Sven BERLIN (1911-1999)'Incomplete Everest Text & Drawings Without Typescript of Poem - Also Carbon Copy TS' and 'Everest Handwritten Text & Drawings Incomplete'Two folders including typescript, various photocopied pages, handwritten text and some original drawings relating to 'Everest'.Also included within one of the two folders is a collection of Berlin's poems named 'Six Great Men As Artists', signed and dated 1997. Artists mentioned include Picasso, Dante, Homer, Michaelangelo, and Van Gogh.As described in Berlin's 1994 book, 'Coat of Many Colours', the influence for 'Everest' was Berlin's second cousin, scientific explorer Sven Hedin. Berlin states that 'although I never met him, he was a major influence on my early life'. He admired his emblematic spirit and confessed that 'Although I was early to realise I could not become an explorer I was led by Hedin's influence to discover the ancient tombs of the mind which visual images awakened in me and with which their secret chambers are filled. The living Gods and Goddesses who guard them in those ruined cities through which my tiger has led me down the years have taught me to weave them into the fabric of daily life through rare and extraordinary processes of art.' Although Berlin did not climb Mount Everest, Sven Hedin did, and he documented this feat in his 1923 book, 'Mount Everest', which Berlin read as a child. Although Berlin was not a typical 'physical' explorer, influences such as Hedin's inspire exploration of creativity, rather than that of physical place.

He was later transferred to 'the Jedburgh's', his unit was in Arnhem waiting for the 'Bridge to Far' parachute drop. Apparently only one Saarf unit saw action and this as operation 'Violet' we are not sure if Tonge was involved with this operation. Lot 702

Fast, attractive, manual six-speed Grand Tourer in a stylish Blue Swaters Metallic over gorgeous tan leather.Produced from 1992 until 2003, the Ferrari 456 and later 456 M are front-engined 'Grand Tourers' in true Ferrari tradition and were an overdue replacement for the outdated, front-engined 412 which had been the company's premium four-seat V12 car for many years. The name '456' refers to the fact that each cylinder displaces 456 cubic centimetres and this was the last Ferrari to use this naming convention. Despite its supercar performance, 436bhp, 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds, and a top speed of 188mph, the 456 has a relatively unstressed engine which has proven to be a very reliable unit. Its looks are smooth and understated, and distinctive external features include a small grille with fog lights on the outside, bonnet-mounted air scoops (removed on the 456M), and pop-up headlights, making this the last Ferrari to do so. The model was warmly received by press and enthusiasts alike, and although not produced in large numbers was always gently in demand by 'silver-haired' Ferrari owners before the 456M was eventually replaced in 2004 by the 612 Scaglietti.Finished in the rare colour combination of Blu Swaters Metallic with tan leather, this front-engine, V12 manual gearbox, Grand Tourer is a very useable example. Initially supplied to European specification, it was imported into the UK in 2017 with an odometer reading of just 95,874km (59,573 miles). In November 2021, it was subject to a comprehensive service at a cost of £8,567 with Ferrari specialists Stradale Italia, and this work included replacing the cambelts, auxiliary drive belt, air-conditioning belt, tensioners, engine oil and filter. It also included spark plugs, brake fluid, wiper blades, air flow meter, headlamp motor, an engine cooling system flush and antifreeze required as a reconditioned radiator had been fitted. The water pump was replaced at the same time together with a refurbished alternator, re-gassed air conditioning and screen washer system.  The 456 was the final Ferrari to offer classic ‘pop-up’ headlamps and overall the Pininfarina-styled coachwork seems to become more attractive as time moves on, subtle and stylish yet still with that timeless Ferrari sense of purpose. The 456 GT is a connoisseur's Ferrari, a gentleman’s express, especially with three pedals, and when the time comes to re-offer this European example, a global left-hand drive market awaits. SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: 456 GTYear: 1994Chassis Number: ZFFSD44B000099050Registration Number: L108 UHCTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 36290 Drive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 95872 KMMake: LHDInterior Colour: TanClick here for more details and images

Pretty, right-hand drive Dino from long-term ownership. The new Dino 246GT was an absolute delight from all angles, its beauty, handling, engine note, mid-engined layout, unusually good all-round visibility and comparative affordability made it absolutely irresistible. The voluptuous bodywork, which many people regard as the prettiest ever to grace a road-going Ferrari, was designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti and covered a tubular chassis which carried wishbone independent suspension at each corner. The 190bhp engine, with four overhead camshafts, was mounted transversely behind the driver and in front of the rear axle. Power to the wheels was transmitted via drop gears to the transverse 5-speed gearbox, in unit with the differential and engine sump. With rack and pinion steering and a mid-engined configuration, it was a revelation in terms of road holding and stability, nothing had been made like this before and it left its larger V12-engined siblings in its wake. This was a very modern car and a real step in Ferrari history announcing a new age for Ferrari in concept and design. Sparkling acceleration and a top speed of 145mph combined with a comfortable interior and some usable boot space meant that it was a genuine 'Grand Touring' car.Finished in Nuovo Giallo Fly Yellow with a Nero interior, this particular Ferrari 246 GT has been with its present owner for some twenty years and as such is fresh to market, a superb and unmolested example that has been cared for as required to keep up to standard at all times. Fitted with the desirable Campagnolo wheels and with the seats having just been retrimmed by Ferrari specialists together with a mechanical inspection just completed, the Dino presents extremely well and, whilst not a Concours contender, no one could argue that it is not extremely pleasing on the eye! It's fitted with electric windows and a period eight-track cartridge player. We are currently awaiting the cars history and, whilst we understand that the indicated mileage of just over 31,000 may well be correct, we can confirm when we have access to the Dino's service records.Total 246 GT right-hand-drive production is believed to have been less than 500 giving this particular Ferrari an air of exclusivity and an ever increasing desirability making this an opportunity not to be missed for the discerning Ferrari collector. Your personal inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate this rare, right-hand drive Prancing Horse. Please note that the registration number '37 TU' shown in the video does not form part of the sale. SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: 246 DINO GTYear: 1973Chassis Number: 06744Registration Number: 37 TUTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 31044 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black HideClick here for more details and images

Lot 707

A striking example of Ferrari's era-defining Testarossa, UK-supplied in right-hand drive and only 10,500 miles from new. When Ferrari introduced the Testarossa at the Lido on the Champs-Elysees on the eve of the 1984 Paris Salon de l’Auto, it caused a sensation. The crisp, square-cut almost deliberately functional lines and superior mechanical specification instantly rendered the 512BBi yesterday’s car and it soon came to be rightly regarded as possibly the best car Ferrari had ever built.Today, the Testarossa has become a design icon, symbolic of eighties culture, and despite a period a few years ago when interest plateaued, its popularity has returned and the market is strengthening rapidly. It’s not a surprise really since the Testarossa offers a rare package of serious performance, practicality, reasonable comfort and confidence-inspiring handling at high speed that becomes almost addictive. One of just 438 UK-supplied, right-hand drive examples, this immaculate Testarossa is classically finished in Rosso Corsa with Crema hide and Rosso carpets and was delivered new by H.R.Owen on the 7th January 1991 to its first lucky owner. On offer today from a private collection, it has been lightly used in recent years but, as can be seen from our images, remains in simply fabulous condition. It’s been enhanced with an upgraded Pioneer CD unit and a glorious sounding Koenig sports exhaust system and has covered the grand total of 10,475 miles. Naturally, at this low mileage, the car’s history file is not huge but it appears to be comprehensive. The file contains previous MOT Certificates between 1993 and 2003 and the original service book is present with five stamps. H.R. Owen carried out the first service and a combination of Rardley, Maranello Sales and Keys Motorsport have looked after the car since then, with the last stamp by Keys Motorsport in 2013 on 10,351 miles including cambelt and tensioners. When the car was serviced by Keys, a glowing condition report was written for the car, testifying to its lovely condition and this is included within the history file. The car is accompanied by the jack, tool roll and its original leather book pack with manuals and instruction books. This is an exceptional example of a much sought after model in lovely original condition which simply needs to be prepared for use and enjoyed.SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: TESTAROSSAYear: 1991Chassis Number: ZFFAA17C000086415Registration Number: H865 MPBTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 23494Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 10475 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Cream Leather

Very rare, Factory 'Chairs and Flairs' GTS in gleaming Nero. There is no doubt that this stunning 1973 Ferrari Dino 246GTS is simply ‘World Quality’. We have seen many lovely examples of these beautiful cars over the years but this one is exceptional. It was delivered new to Modern Classic Motora, Nevada in January 1974, finished in Nero with a Pelle Rosa interior, and onwards to its first owner who lived in greater Los Angeles. In addition to electric windows and air-conditioning, it was ordered from new with two options that have become known as ‘Chairs and Flares’ and being rare, add considerably to the car’s appeal. To be accurate the seating option was listed as "Nero 161 inserts" and refers to Daytona-style black inserts in whatever colour of leather was specified for the rest of the interior. ‘The Flares’ option was technically listed as “Wide wheel/Housings" and refers to the flared wheel arches and sand-cast Campagnolo wheels fitted by the factory before despatch. The Dino’s first owner was to keep it for the next thirty years, mainly in the LA area, and in 2004 the time had come to move it on. It had only covered 36,871 miles at this point but was 30 years old, so the car’s second owner committed to a full restoration. It was fully stripped to bare metal and refinished in Giallo Fly (yellow), the interior was totally refurbished in tan with new ‘mouse-fur’ on the dash-top and new carpets. The brake calipers were rebuilt with new hoses and pads, new shocks and shock bushings were fitted with suspension bushings, new lid supports, door and window seals and the chrome was re-plated. All this work was photo-documented, however, it’s a little academic as our vendor, the Dino’s third owner, went quite a lot further a few years later.Having purchased this little yellow Ferrari in Los Angeles during 2010, our vendor added it to his eclectic collection where it was used lightly. An international business man with influence in every continent, he decided that it would be advantageous if his Dino could be awarded Classiche Certification and being a man with a reputation for standards and detail, tasked Cremonini Carrozzeria SRL (Cremonini Classic) of Modena with creating, what he hoped would be, the best 246GTS in the world. Whether they succeeded or not is for you to judge but, now returned to it’s original Nero with red leather ‘Daytona’ seats and red carpets, it was granted full Classiche Certification in April 2018 confirming matching numbers. The Cremonini restoration amounted to some £350,000 and within the history file are many invoices detailing the process. The substantial file also contains the car’s US Title, UK V5C (previously registered as DBY 970M), current Italian registration, ZA 660 TA, Dino handbooks, the warranty card in its leather wallet and naturally, the hard-won Classiche in the famous ‘Red Book’. Pleasingly the car retains what appears to be its original tool-roll.We welcome and encourage any inspection of this spectacularly presented, 'Chairs and Flares', Classiche certified 246 GTS.SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: DINO 246 GTSYear: 1974Chassis Number: 06452Registration Number: ZA66 OTADrive Side: Left-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 1935 MilesMake: LHDInterior Colour: Red LeatherClick here for more details and images

Fabulous, UK-supplied, right-hand drive Dino GTS finished in rare Blu Dino Metallic with Classiche Certification. There was an addition to the range in 1972 when the Spider version was introduced. With the exception of the detachable roof there was little difference between the two models, but the 246GTS, as it was designated, has become all the more desirable as a collector's car, particularly as only 1,274 were produced in its three years of production.Presented here for auction at the National Ferrari Day in association with the Ferrari Owners Club Great Britain is a beautiful 1973 Dino GTS, chassis number 05880 delivered in March 1973 to GW Perfect, Bucks finished in Blu Dino Metallic with a Pelle Beige interior. The car presents beautifully and remains in its factory colours indicating just 24,277 miles on the speedometer at the time of cataloguing. Importantly, this example is supported by Ferrari Classiche Certificate confirming the matching numbers engine, correct colours and original unrepaired chassis. Offered directly from a significant car collection in Germany, chassis 05880 is accompanied by a history file which includes German registration papers and invoices for maintenance over the years including a full engine rebuild in April 2020 carried out by a highly regarded Ferrari specialist. Records indicate that this beautiful GTS remained in the ownership of GW Perfect from 1973 until 1989, selling to another UK owner before being exported to Germany in 2009.  It's also accompanied by the desirable Classiche 'Red Book, the original Warranty Card, confirmation that the Perspex headlamp covers were fitted from new and the original Bill of Sale from Maranello Concessionaires dated 10/04/1973 for £5,998.52. There is also paperwork detailing comprehensive maintenance including professional inspections whilst the car was in GermanyCorrectly dry stored and enjoyed occasionally, this remarkably well-preserved Dino with low mileage and low ownership is presented to market in the UK, correctly imported on a temporary UK Customs Bond ready to be exported globally or re-registered here in the UK. In summary, this is a highly desirable, collector-grade, UK-supplied, right-hand drive Dino GTS with a Ferrari Classiche and finished in rarely seen Blu Dino Metallic which perfectly suits its glorious Pininfarina lines. SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: DINO 246 GTS - CLASSICHEYear: 1973Chassis Number: 05880Registration Number: NOT REGISTEREDTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 0010787Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 24277 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Beige

Initially purchased through Nigel Mansell Sports Cars Ltd, this smart 328 GTS has led a sheltered life covering a mere 2,760 miles from new.The Ferrari 328 GTS and GTB made their worldwide debut at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show and its styling was an obvious evolution of the Ferrari 308 Series, however, Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti had softened his previous design and it still remained a popular choice with Ferrari aficionados. Two variants of this mid-engine sportscar were offered, the Gran Turismo Berlinetta Coupé and the Gran Turismo Spider which featured a removable Targa top, offering an exhilarating open-air driving experience and affording the driver and their fortunate passenger unbridled access to the unmistakable howl of the dry-sump Ferrari V8.Under the engine cover is the same transversely-mounted, fuel-injected V8 from the Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole, with an increase in displacement. By increasing both bore and stroke, the quattrovalvole's capacity was raised to 3,186cc which, together with a higher compression ratio, revised pistons and an improved Marelli engine management system, lifted maximum power to 270bhp at 7,000rpm. Top speed was raised to within a whisker of 160mph (258km/h) and 60mph arrived from a standing start in 5.5 seconds. This superb, right-hand drive 328GTS Targa-topped convertible was supplied by Nigel Mansell Sports Cars in the Isle of Man to a Mr Roy Dowle in March 1990 at a cost of £97,500, which included £1,995 worth of Ferrari luggage, and the original invoice is in the car's history file. Initially registered, G328 AJT, its Manx registration was GMN 328 for 19 years before subsequently returning to its UK registration in July 2011 when it was purchased by our vendor. Having been dry stored for a considerable number of years, it has covered a mere 2,670 miles from new and is described as in generally good condition, although in need of mechanical recommissioning simply because it's spent some time off the road. This classic Ferrari V8-engined sports car has an understandably small history file, containing Isle of Man registration and export documents, its Ferrari leather-bound book pack containing Ferrari pre-owned booklets, owners manual, service booklet and dealership network booklet.A UK-supplied, right-hand drive, GTS is a rare find at this tiny mileage and has been guided to allow for the appropriate engine service to return to manufacturers parameters.SpecificationMake: FERRARIModel: 328 GTSYear: 1989Chassis Number: ZFFWA20C000082244Registration Number: G328 AJTTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 18633Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 2670 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Cream LeatherClick here for more details and images
