Charles I, a Civil War period silver Royalist Badge, by Thomas Rawlins, bust of the King to right, wearing decorative lace collar and sash over left shoulder, rev Royal Arms crowned and within Garter, in incuse, with wreath border to both sides (Medallic Illustrations, Vol I, 360/231), with pearl drop or 'tear' attached. Good very fine and rare.
A William and Mary silver chinoiserie porringer by Anthony Nelme, London 1689, rare with flat-chased ornament featuring a Chinese maiden and young boy, reverse side with a Chinese male, a dog and wild birds, a shallow punctuated border beneath, double-scroll handles, approx. 8.5ozs., 3.5in. high, 4.25in. diam. A Rare & Exceptionally Fine 18th Century Marble & Ormolu Mantel Clock of Fabulous Quality. The enamelled annular chapter ring signed Richard Paris & encircling the visible movement to the centre with four hands: two of blackened steel indicating the days of the week & calendar month, and two pierced & gilded with criss-crossing arms tapering to the fleur-de-lys pointers counting the hours & minutes. The movement striking a bell and having a silk suspended pendulum finely cast with Apollo sunburst cradled in a cockerell headed C-scroll. The drum case elevated on square black marble columns and surmounted by a tall apexed pediment enriched with ornately cast ormolu trophies & beading, tapering up to the eagle surmount. The whole flanked by Carrera marble side columns embellished with rising bellflower chains set into the fluted sides and supporting two magnificent recumbent lions bearing in their mouths chains swagged from the beaks of the centre eagle. Standing on a D-ended base 29 ins (74 cms) in height, 23 ins (58.5 cms) in width.
Snaffles; Charles Johnson Payne (1884-1967). A Graphite & Watercolour on Paper, entitled The Odds on the Pheasant, a rare depiction of a hunting & shooting scene, purportedly a larger version of a Snaffles sketch from his book 'Osses and Obstacles' published in 1935. 14 ins x 9½ ins (36 cms x 24 cms). Mounted in a frame 17¼ ins x 23 ins (59 cms).
A Rare Dutch Marquetry Coaching Table. The folding drop-leaf top measuring 33 ins (84 cms) in width; the triangular flaps inlaid with box wood strings bordering a central marquetry urn emanating flowers within v-shaped decorative acanthus leaves scrolling from beneath the urn. The side lifting to reveal the games table, having a central roundel inlaid with floral sprays and playing cards within corner roundels. Standing on double gate legs of tapering fluted form and terminating on square moulded feet.

A rare Chinese famille rose enamelled porcelain bowl, mark and period of Yongzheng (1723-35), the near hemi-spherical sides supported on a slightly everted foot, the exterior painted with two elderly sages and their acolyte strolling in a landscape, both sages bare kneed and wearing sandals, one carrying a staff, the other a mattock, their acolyte carrying a double gourd flask and looking over his shoulder, the finely painted landscape of hills and crags picked out in blue, aubergine and greens with a gnarled tree in the foreground, the interior with a small pine and rock detail, six character mark of Yongzheng in underglaze blue to base, diameter approx 11.8cm, height approx 6.3cm (minor enamel loss).

A rare large Wemyss pottery pig, circa 1900, painted with pink cabbage roses, thistles and shamrock, modelled seated on its haunches, impressed factory mark 'Wemyss Ware R.H. & S.' with puce printed retailer's stamp, 42cm long (some restoration to tail and ears). Note: it is unusual to see pigs of this size painted with roses, thistles and shamrocks, normally the decoration consists of one type of flower. A similar example was sold by Sotheby's at their Gleneagles sale, 26th August 2003, Lot 321.

Book post: c1860 wrapper with embossed 'per Book Post Knight & Co. 90 Fleet Street' in red at top left, addressed to Kirbly and franked with 1858-79 1d rose red, tied by bold London 'D34' numeral, light vert fold but much above average, a rare example of this difficult Inland branch numeral believed to have been used for bulk mail, Parmenter rarity 'H'.

CHARLES LANCASTER, A RARE .360 NO. 5 CF FOUR BARREL HOWDAH PISTOL, no. 8572, 5 1/2-inch oval bored barrels with brass foresight, the receiver with Charles Lancaster patent rotating striker, the bird's beak grip with ribbed back strap and chequered walnut panels, lanyard loop, black powder proof, retaining traces of original finish and worn to a brown patination overall, extractor defective. This lot will not be available for viewing in London. It may be viewed by appointment at our office in West Sussex.

REILLY & CO., A RARE 8-BORE HAMMER RIFLE, NO. 81534, 28-inch damascus barrels with 3 1/4-inch chambers, deep seven groove rifling, the broad file-cut rib with folding leaf sight, the rounded frame, non-rebounding back locks, hammers and rotary under lever with scroll engraving within patterned borders, retaining all of its renewed hardening colour, 14 1/2-inch figured stock with pistol grip and engraved steel butt plate, 13lb. 10oz., black powder proof, canvas case. The rifle has been re-finished overall.
WEBLEY & SCOTT, A RARE 12-BORE "THE FIELD PROOF GUN", NO. 6365, DATED 1902, the massive gun with 30-inch barrel, 2 1/2-inch chamber, with crusher turret above the chamber and 6 inches from the breach face, to measure proof pressure, falling block action, with the correct apparatus for ceiling mounting, together with 3 graduated pendulum swing scales, lead and copper crushers, etc. The gun is engraved with Kynoch Collection number 93/2065 and retains much original finish. The pendulum proof gun was introduced to measure recoil as well as proof pressure, a subject much investigated during the transition from black powder to nitro cellulose propellants.
BOSS & CO., A FINE AND RARE 16-BORE SELECTIVE SINGLE TRIGGER SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR GUN, NO. 8625, 27-inch chopper-lump barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers, about 1/4 and 1/2 choke borings, the frame, locks and left-handed top lever with fine bouquet and scroll engraving and retaining much original hardening colour, the right lock with single trigger selector lever, rolled edge trigger guard, gold lined cocking indicators, 15-inch well figured stock including 2 1/4-inch extension, 6lb. 5oz., nitro proof, in its maker's lightweight leather case. The makers kindly confirm that the gun was built for General The Lord St. Levan, CB in 1938. The records confirm the order for a single trigger 16-bore with 27-inch barrels to have a left hand lever. The original stock length, 13 9/16-inch with a sponge rubber recoil pad. 2nd Lord St. Levan John Townshend St. Aubyn 2nd Baron St. Levan was born in 1857. Educated at Eton and Cambridge, he joined the Grenadier Guards in 1878. He served in the Sudan in 1884 and at the Nile in 1885. In 1916 he re-joined the Army and was promoted to Brigadier General in charge of the Reserve Western Territorial Divison. He was a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant of Cornwall. Other appointments included Honorary Colonel of the Devon & Cornwall Heavy Brigade and Cornwall Royal Garrison Artillery., He was also military secretary to the Governor General of Canada form 1892-94. He died in 1940, only two years after this gun was built.
