Very fine, light surface corrosion, very rare £300-£400 --- Importation Duty This lot is subject to importation duty of 5% on the hammer price unless exported outside the UK --- --- The Kingston & Liguanea Water Works incorporated in 1842; they negotiated a lease for part of the Hope Estate from the Duke of Buckingham in 1848. In 1850 the company acquired over 600 acres of land for £6215; shortly thereafter pipes were laid from the Hope River to supply running water to the population of Kingston. The Jamaica Government bought out the company in 1871. Edmund Levy is recorded as the Collector in 1878.

In 1847 the Society handed over their churches to the Synod of the United Presbyterian Church, which later became the Presbyterian Church of Jamaica.

The business expanded into the Boston Fruit Co. in 1885 and later was merged into the United Fruit Co. in 1899. These are possibly the earliest Jamaican fruit tallies.
