A MINED 100% WELSH 18CT GOLD PENDANT & TORQUE NECKLET by Welsh jewellery designer Nicola Palterman (nee Williams) the pendant being of abstract organic form comprising eight bark-textured twigs in criss-cross and set with three round-brilliant cut diamonds, pendant previously tested as 18ct, 37.7gms and consisting of rare mined Welsh gold from the Gwynfynydd Mine near Dolgellau together with a similarly Welsh mined 18ct yellow gold torque necklet, 30gms (total 67.7gms) Provenance: consigned directly from the former mining manager of Gwynfynydd Welsh gold-mine 1984-1990. The mine was owned by Sir Mark Weinberg and produced the first batch of Welsh gold on St David's Day 1984. The mine produced over 2000 ounces of Welsh gold which was mostly sold to the Britannia Gold Company Ltd and a smaller amount to three local goldsmiths. The vendor retained some gold personally and supplied the gold for this pendant in 2010 to the Neath based jeweller Nicola Palterman for a special commission as a gift to his wife. Nicola Palterman designed and produced a number of different Welsh gold jewellery items for the vendor, all of which were gifted to family members. Nicola Palterman is a former winner of Welsh Artist of the Year for Applied Arts and collaborated on the design of the Prince William Cup for the Welsh Rugby Union, currently she is the owner-director of Nicola Palterman designs in Neath. The auction estimate is based on the exceptional rarity of Welsh gold and the prices achieved for raw mined Welsh gold by our auction rooms in Colwyn Bay in 2017. Name of vendor and further paperwork can be supplied on request including letter to vendor from Sir Mark Weinberg, insurance valuation, newspaper cuttings and letter to vendor from Britannia Gold Company Ltd. Vendor prepared to sign an affidavit as a declaration that the pendant consists of Gwynfynydd mined gold absolute.
