Rare Martini Henry MkI .577/450 rifle Rare unaltered Martini Henry MkI .577/450 rifle, 32inch barrel fitted with folding ladder sight, secured by two bands one with bayonet lug, cleaning rod to the underside of with original sharp shouldered form, the polished breech block stamped S B relating to the improved striker, held in place with a bronze axis pin, the receiver stamped with a Crowned VR Enfield I and dated 1873, the butt fitted with sling swivel (moved to the trigger guard on later patterns) with deeply struck R.M. Enfield WD I roundell and chequered butt plate, numerous WD inspection stamps to all parts. Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out. 124cm long The rifle appears in very good general condition with a nice dark patina.The action works correctly with a positive lock-up.The bore is bright and shiny with a strong crisp rifling pattern.The bluing is mainly all present with some wear in places such as the trigger guard bow, and the barrel bands.  There is very light speckled surface finish to the parts which would have once been polished such as the breech block. The stock is free from splits or repairs, there are quite a few scratches and dents typical of a military rifle but nothing defacing.

Buyer must be over the age of 18 and ID will be requested if the gun is to be posted out to a home address.87cm long The rifle has a dark pitted overall patina. The action parts all appear to be present but the gun will not cock as the sear does not engage and hold the spring back when depressed. The bore has some pitting throughout. The stock has been cleaned up by light sanding and has a low oil finish. It is free from splits or cracks, there are some small dents and scratches. Some screw heads show signs of being worked, one has been replaced.

The bore has reasonable rifling pattern throughout which is softening on the edges. There is very minor pitting in the grooves. The metalwork to the outside has been reblued, this is starting to fade in places. There is pitting to the outer sides of the barrel where the stock meets the metal. The polished parts have some surface speckling. The action works correctly and has a positive lock up. The stock has a glued split at the wrist area, the barrel band has some paper packing to tighten it up. There is some chipping to the cleaning rod channel. The butt plate is loose due to one screw hole needing filling and redrilling for a positive fit. There are dents knocks and marks typical of a military firearm.

Rare late 16th century/early 17th century embroidered linen cushion cover, worked in coloured silks, silver and silver gilt threads in plaited braid stitch, rectangular and having allover scrolling foliage decoration, Tudor roses, cornflowers, yellow daisies, pomegranates and other fruit, with silver and silver gilt lace borders, allover embellished with silver gilt spangles and having eight pairs blue silk and silver thread ribbon ties to the ends, 46cm long x 34cm wide, ribbons 9cm long. One ribbon missing its brocade, visible from the back only. Condition ReportThere is some fading in a narrow strip down the centre of the back of the cover - I have added a photo to the catalogue showing this. There is some very minor fading to the ribbons - I have added a photo illustrating this to the catalogue, though it is quite hard to see in the photo. One of the ribbons is missing its brocade, which is present on all the others - there is also now an additional photo in the catalogue showing this. There is no other apparent damage or wear to the cover.
