Jerzy Eleuter Siemiginowski (c. 1660-1711). Day, after Lazarro Baldi’s frescoed ceiling in the Palazzo Odescalchi, Engraving, on two sheets joined, [c.1677-1684] 335 x 660mm. (13 1/4 x 26in). Provenance: Dr. E. Peart (c.1756-1824) [Lugt 891], collector’s stamp recto. Between 1660 and 1665 Lazarro Baldi (1623-1703) frescoed a ceiling in the Palazzo Odescalchi, Rome, with scenes of Day, Night, Dawn, Dusk and, in the centre, Apollo in the Chariot of the Sun. This mythological decoration was lost in 1745. The rare engravings made by Baldi’s pupil, Szymonowicz, are crucial for our understanding of Baldi’s lost work. We have been unable to trace any previous sale records for these prints.

Eau-forte et burin. Très belle épreuve avec le titre et les armes, avant la lettre complète, coupée avant la marque du cuivre, éraflure dans la lettre. Provenance: Cette planche est l’adaptation en contrepartie de « l’Oracle » par J. Dixon. Le temps avec une lanterne magique projette sur un rideau une représentation allégorique de la Révolution aux États Unis. Quatre personnages féminins symbolisent quatre parties du monde. Au centre une théière au-dessus d’un feu, un coq emblème de la France le maintient avec un soufflet ; cette épreuve avec le coq est rare car il a dû être supprimé par la suite. Le contenu de la théière explise, un serpent et le bonnet de la liberté sont projetés dans les airs avec des rayons de lumière et nuages de fumée au dessus. Cela faisant rapport à la taxe sur le thé. À droite des soldats américains avancent avec un drapeau sur lequel se trouve un serpent devant eux une figure allégorique de l’Amérique. À gauche des bêtes sauvages combattent.

The unusual ink stand is inscribed ‘2nd Duke of Wellington Regiment Java Soccer Tour.’ The stand bears the signature A W Farick, makers mark to base, possibly Singapore. 23 x 42 cms

A rare set of Nott`s Yeomanry medals, comprising the gold medal and the silver medal with Green Dale Oak to obverse, and George III MDCCCII to reverse, together with the bronze medallion for Long Service and good conduct, presented in a sitted box with Nott`s Yeomanry carved to lid These medals were presented by Lord Newark to the officers and men of the Nottingham Troop of Yeomanry previous to the disembodiement of the regiment. Those of the officers were gold, and the non-commissioned officers and privates were silver.

(13.6 x 15.3cm.), the unfolded chart 29½ x 21¾in. (75 x 55cm.). * Mrs Fothergill and La Chaire are mentioned in the `Tourist`s Guide to The Channel Islands` by Benjamin Clarke, published by Stanfords of London, c.1870. See Illustration.

William Arthur Toplis, R.A. (Sheffield 1857-1942 Sark) `Rain and Sunshine, Trawl Afon`, North Wales oil on canvas, signed `Wm. A. Toplis` and dated 1877 lower right, signed and inscribed to canvas verso 11½ x 17½in. (29.25 x 44.5cm.) * Exhibited at the Guernsey Museums & Galleries `Toplis and The Book of Sark` exhibition in 2008. This rare Toplis oil is one of a series of seventy-one pictures painted for and purchased by Alderman Harvey between 1877 and 1881, all landscapes in North Wales, the Midlands, Scotland and Jersey. (35.5 x 52.25cm.) * This is a very rare painting by this artist, who is known for only one further work, an oil of Herm, Jethou and Sark from La Vallette, St Peter Port in the Guernsey Museum collection. Although the painting is dated 1832 on the mount, this is believed to be incorrect, the work probably dating from the fourth quarter of the 19th century. See Illustration.
