** Awaiting new V5C from the DVLA **A lovely BJ8 that's been in current private ownership for over 30 years. The Austin-Healey 3000 is the very epitome of the classic British sports car and one of the very few cars that can be said to have attained classic status whilst still in production. Quite an achievement then, but not an altogether unexpected one considering Austin-Healey's heritage coupled with its achievements in motorsport. The 3000 Mk III (BJ8) with 150bhp appeared early in 1964 to be followed later in the year by the Phase II version which featured a brace of HD8 SU carburettors, stronger valve springs, a revised camshaft, walnut-veneered dashboard, wind-up windows, a redesigned rear chassis, addressing a long-term criticism of the car's notoriously poor ground clearance, and revised rear suspension incorporating twin radius-arms instead of a Panhard rod. Top speed was now 121mph and the 0-60mph time dipped below 10 seconds. Despite the antiquity of the basic design, the 'Big Healey' remained as popular as ever, although increasingly stringent safety and emissions legislation meant that its days were numbered and by the time production ended in December 1967, over 16,000 Phase IIs - by far the most popular variant - had been built.According to the accompanying Heritage Trust Certificate, this lovely, late-production BJ8 was despatched to Boston, USA on 7th December 1966 in left-hand drive format and was originally finished in British Racing Green with a black leather interior. It was specified from new with wire wheels, overdrive, heater, an adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen, Avon Road Speed tyres and a black tonneau cover which was pretty much the entire options list in 1966.The Healey returned to these shores at the end of the 80s and was purchased by our vendor's late husband in 1989. It has remained in current private family ownership for over 30 years meaning that this BJ8 is excitingly on the market for the first time in over three decades. Now in right-hand drive and classically finished in the striking combination of Colorado Red over Jet Black with chrome wire wheels, red-piped, black leather seats and a Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel, this car has clearly been well looked after during its long-term ownership. Indeed, it has resided in a car bubble for the past five years ensuring it presents so well today.Supplied with a history file, including the aforementioned Heritage Certificate, and a fresh MOT prior to the sale, this is a rare opportunity to purchase this delightful example of the final development of the venerable Healey 3000 from long term ownership and at a very sensible guide.SpecificationMake: AUSTIN-HEALEYModel: 3000Year: 1966Chassis Number: H-BJ8-L/39379Registration Number: TBCTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveClick here for more details and images

And still we find them. A UK-supplied Series 3 from long-term ownership, many years of it, resting in a corner. Serious potential this true barn find, just awaiting its awakening. When searching for the ideal restoration project, most of our clients start with a wish list that would usually include certain models. They may hope that the object of their affection has only had a few owners, or comes from period of long-term ownership, all factors in minimalising the risk. Consequently, a UK-supplied, right-hand drive Series 3 V12 E-Type in Signal Red with black leather, from very long-term ownership and in genuine barn find condition would appear to be a dream come true. When that ownership extends to almost 50 years, and the owner is likely only the second keeper ever, this becomes a very rare opportunity. The Jaguar was first registered in 1973, acquired by our vendors in 1975, and subsequently enjoyed for a number of years before being parked up in a garage some years ago when it required some repairs. There it has remained, awaiting the long-promised repair work to be carried out, until our vendor has finally accepted that he will never 'get around to it' and that it's almost criminal to keep the 'old girl' in the corner of the barn any longer. It's been rolled out of its hiding place, but our vendors have sensibly not tried to start the car for fear of inflicting damage. Consequently, it comes to our sale as a rolling project, with all of the opportunities for a new owner to add value to this matching numbers, low ownership Series 3. The interior appears to be in ok condition, however, the paintwork has flattened (as would be expected) and there will almost certainly be structural work to be carried out, plus mechanicals and electrics to attend to. Being an E-Type, there will be no shortage of options available.Offered at No Reserve, this is an opportunity to acquire a desirable right-hand drive, V12 Series 3 in, what we believe, to be almost complete condition at a sensible price as decided by the market today.  A true barn find, just awaiting its awakening.SpecificationMake: JAGUARModel: E-TYPEYear: 1973Chassis Number: 1S51367Registration Number: MMU 884LTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 7S8161SB Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: LeatherClick here for more details and images

A good example of the rare Twin Plenum with a detailed history file that includes the original service book and reams of historical receipts - Offered Without Reserve.Styled as "New Tradition' by Rover at its launch in 1976, the Rover 3500 "Specialist Division One" took the motoring press by storm, winning the European Car of the Year title in 1977. The SD1 can be considered as the last "true" Rover, being the final Rover-badged vehicle to be produced at Solihull, as well as being the last to be designed largely by ex-Rover Company engineers and also the final Rover car to be fitted with the legendary Rover V8 engine. This Rover SD1 Vitesse is a rare and striking ‘twin-plenum’ example of the marque’s modern classic performance-oriented executive saloon, offered in highly original condition and, we believe, one of only 500 examples. It's powered by a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V8 with a twin side-entry throttle plenum fuel injection system, producing around 200bhp and driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.Originally a Jersey-delivered model, the car has had three owners, and has been with the last owner for five years. Brought over to the UK-mainland, the car is currently on a NOVA and we inform prospective bidders that it is their responsibility to register the car with the DVLA. The odometer reading of 67,344 is commensurate with the original service record in the detailed history file which also includes reams of historic receipts and ownership details. Supplied to auction with a current MOT valid until 1st September 2023, cased Elastoplast First Aid Kit and plastic wallet containing the aforementioned Austin Rover Service Record and Consumer Guide..SpecificationMake: ROVERModel: VITESSEYear: 1986Chassis Number: RREW27CM343615Registration Number: TBATransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 67344 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Grey ClothClick here for more details and images

Lot 676

One of just nine right-hand drive examples of the 60 Series 2 Aero 8s, this one-owner from new Morgan has been fastidiously maintained and has aged particularly well.Released in 2000, the Aero 8 was Morgan’s first properly ‘new’ car since their financially underwhelming Plus 4 Plus of 1964, and personified the fabulous notion of traditional styling with modern underpinnings. Ditching Morgan’s tradition of using an aluminium-skinned wooden body with a heavy steel chassis, the Aero 8 was revolutionary for both Morgan and the wider sports car world, as it featured an all-aluminium bonded chassis.Designed and engineered in-house with a ‘form follows function’ undertone, the main principle of the car was lightweight luxury. The interior features a comfortable combination of polished hardwoods, hand-stitched leather and electronic technology to create a driving environment that is efficient, ergonomic and sumptuous. Despite all this opulence, the driving experience is hugely responsive, largely due to the overall weight of the car remaining minimal at 1,180kg. Unusual as it does not feature anti-roll bars, the Aero 8 walked the fine line between sports car and supercar. Originally fitted with BMWs thumping-yet-smooth M62 4.4-litre V8, the Series 2 was upgraded to the N62 4.4 litre BMW powerplant, pushing out 333bhp and 450Nm torque, mated to an uprated 6-speed Getrag gearbox resulting in 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 160mph.This rare example is made all the more special due to its single 17-year ownership. In excellent condition both mechanically and cosmetically, this enthusiast-owned example stands its ground very well as a strong part in Morgan’s recent history. The maintenance and general care that this car has experienced through its life is evident in its outstanding condition. It's superbly presented in the lovely colour combination of Bentley Silver Pearl Metallic paint over Old Yarwood Red leather and the interior remains fresh without the usual heavy bolster wear on the driver’s side. With a valid MOT until 23rd August 2023, this Aero 8 has covered just 36,483 (atoc) miles from new, averaging a whisker over 2,000 miles a year. Contained within the significant and comprehensive lever-arch history file are details of the full Morgan agent service history from new, with any and all maintenance work undertaken and documented, along with the original owner’s handbook and associated Morgan documentation.Despite receiving initial criticism for its seemingly ‘cross-eyed’ look, the Aero 8 has aged remarkably well, with its unusual appearance now being a huge factor in its desirability. With its striking looks, rarity factor and a rumbling 4.4-litre V8, you will certainly turn heads for all the right reasons. The cherished registration number, V33 ATE, will remain with the car.SpecificationMake: MORGANModel: AERO 8Year: 2005Chassis Number: SA9ER080004J0329Registration Number: V33 ATETransmission: ManualEngine Number: 5275Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 36453 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Old Yarnwood Red LeatherClick here for more details and images

With just 3,044 miles covered by two diligent former keepers from new, this car’s originality is not just obvious by its overall condition, but confirmed in the details where it counts - Offered Without Reserve. The Mk3 Ford Escort was unveiled to the public in September 1980 (internally codenamed ‘Erika’) and was entirely new from the ground up in terms of styling, engineering and mechanicals, the only thing carried over from the previous generations of Escort was the name. This meant that the car deviated from the traditional rear-wheel drive and followed the industry trend of producing wind tunnel-designed, front-wheel drive hatchbacks (all Escorts prior had been saloons) ready to embrace Europe. So well received was the car that it won the much-coveted European Car of the Year in 1981.A convertible version, made by coachbuilder Karmann, appeared in 1983 and was the first drop-top car produced by Ford Europe since the Corsair of the 1960s. Powered by the unmistakable rasp of the 1.6-litre injected CVH engine, it wore ‘Cloverleaf’ alloy wheels and a sharp pin-strip coachline, just what the market wanted. The car presented here is a totally unrestored 1985 Escort 1.6i Cabriolet with evidence of original factory wax on the underside. It wears its original front and rear supplying-dealer number plates and rear window sticker, the factory quality-control stickers are still in situ in the boot and paint marks from the factory are still visible on all the torqued bolts. The spare wheel and jack have never been used but, most memorably, that new car smell is there the minute you open the door. The all-original CVH engine is barely run in and is commensurate with the rest of the car and its indicated mileage of just 3,044 at the time of cataloguing. The car is accompanied by its V5C, Ford dealer network book, Escort manual and ultra-rare Escort Cabriolet booklet, plus 2 sets of keys, with one set still having a key tag number attached. The advisory free MOT is valid until the 5th October 2023.If originality is king for collectors of classic cars, this Ford Escort Cabriolet is certainly royalty; what a great way into owning a classic Ford and would be made very welcome at any owner's club event.SpecificationMake: FORDModel: ESCORTYear: 1985Chassis Number: WF0LXXGKALES17652Registration Number: B595 KNPTransmission: ManualEngine Number: ES17652Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 3044 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Grey ClothClick here for more details and images

Lot 614

Given to double 500cc World Champion Barry Sheene MBE by Suzuki GB in recognition of his time as a Works rider and used by him for five years.Ask any group of non-motor sport enthusiasts to name a famous motor cycle racer and there will be a few Valentino Rossis, a Mike Hailwood or two and undoubtedly the name Barry Sheene would be mentioned, despite the fact that his last motorcycle race was in 1984. His larger-than-life character, spectacular crashes and regular TV appearances for Brut aftershave alongside 'Splash it all over' Henry Cooper made him a household name.A dream for advertising executives and tabloid journalists alike, Barry Sheene (1950-2003) won more international 500cc and 750cc races between 1975 and 1982 than any rival. Although, Kreidler, Derbi and Yamaha also featured on his CV, it was whilst at Suzuki that he became a legend. Among the first LJ80Rs to arrive in the UK, HGO 747T was supplied by Suzuki GB to double world champion Barry Sheene for promotional duties and use as a pit vehicle. Dating from 1979 and originally painted Pastel Blue with black signwriting (including Sheene's famous number `7' decals) and a red stripe, the diminutive 800cc-engined four-wheel drive was later registered to the flamboyant rider's home address and remained with him until 1987 when he migrated to Australia. The Jeep's next owner was Ian Catford - Suzuki GB's contemporary marketing director - who lost little time in reinstating its full `Barry Sheene' livery. Bought by a Mr Royle thereafter, the LJ80R was pressed into everyday use before being sold to Suzuki main dealers, CMW Automobiles of Cuckfield, Sussex during the early 1990s. A showroom exhibit when not appearing at outside events or being loaned to Suzuki GB, HGO 747T was retained by CMW Automobiles' proprietor Richard Ferris upon his retirement in 2007, kept garaged and only used occasionally. In 2013, HGO was offered at auction and purchased by our vendor to join his impressive collection of road and race cars where it has remained ever since. The indicated mileage is 26,170, supported by old MOTs and invoices, and the car appears in very good overall condition and certainly starts and drives like a low-mileage Japanese car. The Suzuki is not only a fantastic piece of motorsport memorabilia but also an interesting vehicle in its own right as a rare survivor of the LJ80 range of lightweights 'Jeeps' which caused quite a stir when they arrived in the UK in the late 70s. It features a soft top hood and removable doors and, although only 800cc, this little four-wheel drive LJ has a real 'go anywhere' look. It's supplied with an owners manual, service manual, a number of older MOTs and maintenance invoices, a couple of older V5s and DVLA Licence Applications in Barry Sheene's name and address in Horley, a Suzuki GB Bulletin, the auction catalogue from 2013 and period photographs taken at Effingham Park Hotel during one of Suzuki GB's annual conferences. This is a lovely little thing and a true connection with one of motorcycle racing's truly great characters. Sensibly guided at a tiny percentage of the values achieved by Barry's race bikes, the LJ would be at home in a corner of any motor sport enthusiast's collection.SpecificationMake: SUZUKIModel: LJ80RYear: 1979Chassis Number: 500103Registration Number: HGO 747TTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 115386Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 26170 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Black VinylClick here for more details and images

Remnants of gilding throughout. This figure of the Buddha represents an event just after his birth in the Lumbini Grove, where he sprang from Queen Maya's side, able to talk and walk. All that exists in the Three Worlds is suffering, but I will bring comfort." Upon this proclamation, the infant Buddha and his mother, Queen Maya, were showered with fragrant blossoms, and streams of pure water.Figures of the Infant Buddha are often venerated on the Buddha's birthday, where they are showered with purified water.

GLENMORANGIE LAST CHRISTMAS AT LEITHSingle malt.Famous for their unique stills, each as tall as an adult giraffe, and their passion for innovation, Glenmorangie remains one of the best-selling single malts in the world. They were one of the first distilleries to experiment with cask finishing; the process of transferring spirit from one cask type to another in order to impart additional characteristics and flavours. To further this agenda of innovation, in September of 2021 Glenmorangie began production at their new “Lighthouse” facility, a futuristic R&D department protruding from the heart of their traditional distillery complex like a monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Off limits to the public, it is home to a “sensory lab” as well as two of Glenmorangie’s signature stills, each of which plays host to several classified modifications. Only time will tell what exciting innovations will filter down to the rest of the industry. This increadibly rare bottle was presented to staff at the Leith office to commemorate the company's last Christmas there in 1995. Lot 287

MACALLAN RARE CASKSingle malt. There are few distilleries in the world quite so revered as Macallan. Nestled in the heart of the Speyside region, the rich spirit that runs from their “curiously small stills”, and their penchant for Spanish Sherry casks have proven to be a match made in Heaven, delighting the tastebuds of whisky connoisseurs around the globe. With demand far outstripping supply, they embarked upon one of the most ambitious distillery upgrades of all time, investing £140 million in an ultra-modern still house and visitor centre that seamlessly blends with the surrounding landscape, and is home to a whopping 36 stills capable of churning out around 15 million litres of spirit every year. Even so, getting your hands on a bottle can still be tricky, with new releases selling out as soon as they hit the shelves, and older examples regularly setting records at auction.43% ABV / 70cl

Lot 2

GLEN ORD 1973 23 YEAR OLD RARE MALTSSingle malt. The Black Isle distillery of Glen Ord has suffered a bit of an identity crisis over the years. It has produced single malt whisky under a variety of names: Glen Ord, Glenordie, Ordie, Muir of Ord, and (simply) Ord. Today its name plays second fiddle to the Singleton brand, of which it is a part, alongside Glendullan and Dufftown distilleries.Like Springbank and Roseisle, Glen Ord is one the few distilleries that can satisfy its malting requirements in house. Their use of very lightly peated malt, combined with a distillation process that maximises copper contact, results in a grassy spirit that reveals notes of ginger as it matures in the cask.Distilled: 1973Bottled: September 1997Bottle Number: 161859.8% ABV / 75clFill level in mid neck. There is some minor wear to the carton.

Lot 238

MORTLACH 10 YEAR OLD EDITOR'S NOSESingle malt.Dubbed “the Beast of Dufftown” by whisky writer, Dave Broom, Mortlach uses a complicated distillation process that minimises copper contact and produces a sulphurous “meaty” spirit that is perfect for blending (not unlike Benrinnes and Dailuaine).Until relatively recently, the only way to experience it in single malt form would have been the 16-Year-Old Flora & Fauna, or the occasional independent bottling. This was because most of its output was used for Diageo’s Johnnie Walker blend. However, that all changed in 2014 when Mortlach introduced its own core range of single malt expressions. This rare bottling was produced for Insider Magazine.60.5% ABV / 70cl

Lot 114

CAOL ILA 1975 20 YEAR OLD RARE MALTSSingle malt.Caol Ila might not be the prettiest distillery on Islay, but the spectacular view it enjoys, across the water to the neighbouring island of Jura, more than makes up for it. The distillery itself is an absolute monster, producing more litres of spirit per year than Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Laphroaig combined! A good chunk of its staggering output winds up in Johnnie Walker, but there’s still plenty left to be bottled as single malt, in both peated and un-peated guises.Distilled: 1975Bottle Number: 113361.12% ABV / 75clFill level in low neck.

Lot 10

DALMORE 10 YEAR OLD ANDERSTON QUAYSingle malt.Dalmore have invested a lot to position themselves as a luxury brand, with their high-end expressions always resplendent in crystal decanters and lavish packaging. And you won’t ever hear them boasting about different cask finishes. Oh no, no, no; they prefer to “finesse” their spirit in a variety of exotic sounding wood. While this type of posturing isn’t exactly unique in the whisky industry, it does create a nagging doubt that the whole thing might just be a case of style over substance.Thankfully, Dalmore’s spirit (more often than not) lives up to the hype. They have a complicated distillation process that utilises mismatched stills to produce distillates with different characteristics. These are then vatted together, before being filled into the distillery’s preferred Sherry casks. This rare bottling was produced exclusively for the Sunday Mail.40% ABV / 75cl
