A rare Chinese Zitan wood libation cup, Qing Dynasty, 17th/18th century, of typical form, the magnolia flower cup of deep oval form and carved in high relief and undercut around the sides and base with gnarled branches of blossoming magnolia and prunus flowers, 7.5cm high, 10.5cm wide For a similar example refer: Christies 26th June, 2014, lot 59 New York Private Collection. Imperial Zitan: Available was only to the master craftsmen employed in the Imperial Palace Workshop. Historically, zitan was primarily grown in southern India and southeast Asia, with a very small quantity known from the southern provinces of present-day Guangxi, Guangdong and Jiangxi in China. It was appreciated for its jade-like silky texture, fine and dense grain, and deep lustre, making it the favoured timber of the Qing court with no expense spared in acquiring it. From Imperial records we know that during Qianlong’s reign in particular, the Palace Workshop used over 290,000 kgs of zitan, most of which had to be imported from overseas due to its almost complete extinction in China. The wood’s long growth period, limited availability and high demand primarily from the Imperial court, led to its excessive felling and eventual disappearance by the early 18th century. The libation cup was made both for ornate display, often with a stand, but primarily as a communal drinking vessel during important ceremony or for consumption of 'health potions'. They have been part of popular culture in China for over 1000 years and the designs are often seen in bronze, rhinoceros horn or exotic woods such as Zitan.

A rare and attractive Gold, Lapis Lazuli and 'Ruby' Jewel, believed Georgian period, the lobed yellow gold backplate, with lightly engraved scrolls set with central baguette cut hardstone, surrounded glass beads and twelve old round cut stones, probably amethyst or garnet, later set with a brooch pin, some restorations to back. Yellow metal appears likely above 14k but is not tested, 30mm, 6g (gross) The central 'stone' appears to be Lapis Luzuli, but may possibly be quartz or even glass with a blue coloured backing. The jewel was left uncleaned so it could be properly restored by any buyer.

Kinofilmprojektor "F.H. 66", um 1950Frieseke & Hoepfner, Erlangen. Kino-Theatermaschine für 1200m-Spulen in zwei Feuerschutztrommeln. Antrieb durch Motor oder Handkurbel, Lichttonabtastung, vor das Projektionsobjektiv kann wahlweise für die Projektion von Cinemascope-Breitwandfilmen ein Möller-Anamorphot eingeschwenkt werden. Im Lampenhaus die vielfach verstellbare Original-Kohlebogenlampe mit großem Hohlspiegel. Bei dieser "F.H. 66" handelt es sich um eine seltene sogenannte Linksmaschine. Wenn im Vorführraum als Ergänzung statt einer zweiten Rechtsmaschine eine Linksausführung gegenüberstand, durfte ein Filmvorführer beide Maschinen bedienen. Die strengen Feuerschutzbestimmungen der Nitrofilm-Zeit verlangten pro Rechtsmaschine einen Vorführer. - Die "F.H. 66" galt wegen ihres Designs und ihrer soliden Ausführung als der Rolls-Royce unter den Kinoprojektoren. Bei der Markteinführung war in der Fachpresse zu lesen: "Der neue Projektor ist keine der üblichen Metallkisten. Er gleicht eher einer Plastik des Bildhauers Henry Moore." - Blickfang für das Foyer eines jeden Film-, Kino- oder Technikmuseums. - Elektrische Funktion nicht geprüft. The strict fire protection regulations of the Nitrofilm era required one projectionist per right-hand machine. - The "F.H. 66" was considered the Rolls-Royce of cinema projectors because of its solid design and construction. At the market launch, the trade press reported: "The new projector is not one of the usual metal boxes. It is more like a sculpture by the sculptor Henry Moore." Patented French binocular viewer for creating distorted images from photographs, with spring motor (working well) and aspherical lens, ht. 5 in., with signed fixed image, two screws on reverse without caps, key present, in working order. - Note: Named after the Greek word "grimatsa" (French "grimace" or English "grin"), this extremely rare viewer is a precursor of the so-called "Photographic Transformists" described by Louis Ducos du Hauron in 1889. A carte-de-visite (with a head as large as possible) is inserted into the back while a rotating aspherical lens transforms the photo of approx. 64 x 64 mm into an amusing distortion. The effect can be heightened by moving the overlapping part of the photograph by hand. Zunow 1,1/5 cm für Leica M39, 1952Zunow Optical, Japan. Nr. 5646 mit Original-Deckel und Zunow-Sonnenblende. Mit der größten Öffnung von 1,1 Anfang der 50er Jahre ein absoluter Lichtriese. Zum Vergleich: Das lichtstärkste Leitz-Objektiv war das Summarit 1,5/5 cm. Dieses extrem seltene Zunow 1,1/5 cm wird gelegentlich mit Nikon-Bajonett angeboten, mit Anschluß für Schraub-Leica fast unauffindbar. Glas unter Punktlicht sauber, Blende läuft, Entfernungskala in Feet, Fokussierung steht fest auf unendlich.
