Lloyds Bank Limited. £1, 12 March 1941, serial number D7596, signatures Towler and Greenwood, black on green and lilac underprint, bank arms at centre, Viking longship at lower centre, reverse blue and lilac, triskeles at centre, value on either side(Pick 12a, Q.374), original very fine and a rare early date. This note has a rather poignant story. It belonged to the sister of a young farmer who grew up on the Isle of Man. At the start of The Second World War he immediately wanted to join the RAF but was too young. As soon as he was old enough he joined bomber command. Every time he was paid he would send £1 home to his mother. Eventually he was shot down and killed. His mother was informed, and later that day the post arrived, containing this £1 note.
