Rare George I Britannia Standard silver spirit burner of circular form, slip-on cover with engraved armorial crest and hinged domed top, clear glass reservoir (London 1722), Sarah Holaday. All at approximately 10ozs, 9.7cm diameter CONDITION REPORT General overall condition good, some surface wear, scratching and minor denting commensurate with age and use. Top rim to base is slightly distorted. Glass reservoir is in good condition but may not be original. Item could be an inkwell and appears to have been used as such. Very rare Victorian table place setting made for The Royal table for the banquet given by the City of London at the Guildhall to honour the visit of Emperor Napoleon III & Empress Eugénie, held on April 19th 1855. The place setting comprising a plate finely painted with central crossed French and British flags with V & N monogram, within gilt Imperial bee and wreath borders, the outer border with French crowned Imperial eagle and British crowned lion motifs, flanked by floral scroll Victoria & Albert and Napoleon & Eugénie, on pink ground, the obverse inscribed in gilt 'Manufactured for J. and S. Staples The Albion, Aldergate Street by J. Rose & Co. Coalbrookdale for the Imperial table on the visit of the Emperor and Empress of the French to the City of London April 19th 1855', 24cm diameter, together with a suite of four glasses for wine, champagne, port and dessert wine, very finely engraved with crowned N and crowned E ciphers, crossed flags and arms of the City of London, the foot engraved with roses, thistles and shamrocks - all contained in a fine fitted mahogany box with green velvet lining and green velvet and bullion embroidered cushion with N cipher and City of London shield, the box 51cm x 39.5cm, probably the only examples still in existence. The State Visit of Emperor Napoleon III took place between 18th to 21st April 1855. Their reception and entertainment took place at the Guildhall. Queen Victoria invested the Emperor with the Order of the Garter. They also visited The Great Exhibition and The Royal Opera House

A large collection of diaries with corresponding photographs covering the period from 1905-1933 Photographs and diary entries by William Good, together with his brother Bertie, mother Mary and father William, ventured out on trips from their home in Wood Green, North London by bicycle, progressing to motorcycles and then cars. The albums contain wonderful topographical photographs of London and the Home County villages and many photographs of early bicycles, motorcycles and cars. Their annual holidays are also documented. The family was strict Plymouth brethren and William writes in his diary on 2nd March 1916 of him and his brother attending a tribunal at the town hall where they were both exempted from combatant service but recommended for the RAMC or ASC/Labour Corps. The last diary entry during World War I is 13th March 1916 in which he writes "Expect to be sent off somewhere tomorrow" and although there are no diary entries during this period there are rare photographs of the two brothers working with the Royal Engineers at a quarry in France. Although not mentioned in his diaries, William was later transferred to the Front with the RAMC, possibly as a non-combatant, picking up the wounded where he was gassed. William and his family later lived in St. Albans, Hertfordshire where he died in 1971.

A RARE 20-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOL BY WESTLEY RICHARDS, 9inch sighted damascus barrel set with a gold maker's tablet at the breech, platinum touch hole, border and scroll engraved bolted lock with rainproof pan, signed WESTLEY RICHARDS and decorated with a stand of arms at the tail, cock replaced, half stocked with white metal fore-end, steel mounts, spur trigger guard marked with the number 525, chequered wooden grip, the butt set with an Indian made white metal lanyard ring, later wooden ramrod. Cock replaced and wood with knocks and dings, rubbed chequering.

A FINE AND RARE EARLY 19TH CENTURY OFFICER'S TARLETON OF THE ROYAL ARTILLERY, the brass trimmed leather skull with straw filled bearskin crest, the headband or turban secured by embossed lacquered and gilt chains, lacquered and gilt regimental title to the front and lacquered gilt crowned GR helmet plate to the right side, velvet backed lacquered gilt chinscales, correct red and white three-stage feather plume, pair of silver bullion tassels to the rear, stamped brass collection tag no. 114 also secured to the rear, the interior with scarlet silk lining. Some mothing to headband skin otherwise very good.

A RARE ETHIOPIAN MENELIK II KING'S GUARD SWORD WITH RHINOCEROS HORN HILT, 77.75 curved fullered blade profusely etched with geometric designs of an architectural form and with St George and the Dragon and a profile of Menelik II to either side of the forte, characteristic Rhinoceros horn two-piece hilt contained in its tooled leather scabbard. Menelik II (1844-1913) reigned from 1889-1913 confronting and defeating the Italians in their attempts to expand their empire. See Islamic and Native Weapons of Colonial Africa 1800-1960 by Anthony C. Tiri, figures 2-8 on page 72. Please comply with CITES legislation.
